ok, so i'm looking at picking up a Stevens Model 200. pricing is about what i want.

anyone have one??

I want to know if they shoot steel cased ammo or only brass cased stuff.

also, what kinda rails does it have to mount a scope?

any other recommendation for something in the same price range? (looking for something cheep to play with) don't want to spend $700 on it.

thanks

ok, so i'm looking at picking up a Stevens Model 200. pricing is about what i want.

anyone have one?? I have a 308 savage does that count?

I want to know if they shoot steel cased ammo or only brass cased stuff. I'm sure it would but why would you? Do a search for 5.56 vs .223 when looking for cheap ammo.

also, what kinda rails does it have to mount a scope? You need to get bases to mount rings on.

any other recommendation for something in the same price range? (looking for something cheep to play with) don't want to spend $700 on it. The Stevens is a very good bang for the low-buck. Anything else you might want to look at would be used.

I have a short barrel one. But not an SBR. Scope BSA Huntsman 4x16 x 40mm. It is very accurate, more accurate than I am. It eats whatever just fine.

My research (and Pirate) says out of the box it is more accurate than other brands without spending some coin on another rifle. Mine needs a bipod and I am ready to roll.

Stock color is ugly, but I am a big fan of spray paint..... (Spray paint has came a long way the last few years too FWIW :flipoff2: )

shoot steel cased because its inexpensive plinking ammo.

stock color is a gray or something isn't it?

thanks

This one? It's a Savage so it's an ok gun. It will be tapped for scope mounts but as mentioned you're going to need some bases.

I want a sugar momma. :(

They should fit well with a 40-44mm objective scope.

Stock is gray tupperware. Over the past few years Savage has changed the action screw bolt spacing so there are very few aftermarket stocks if you ever want to change it. The latest guns will come with a center feed mag which is a good thing because they feed very well.

Surveyboy, where do you shoot now that you are up this way? Have you been to Circle S? Do you just go out to the sticks? Richmond Rod and Gun club(where I have been shooting)?

I like Richmond, they have good prices on ammo, I haven't been to Circle S yet, but might give it a shot(pun intended.)

..now back to your regularly scheduled discussion....

Tikka Light

CZ 527 American synthetic

Both will be much nicer than a Stevens for not that much more cash.

 I don't know if i really want to tackle trying to drill and tap this thing....It comes already tapped. You just need to screw on the bases. That is the same with every modern bolt action out there.

"Nicer" isn't the point of the Stevens. It is inexpensive, one of the most accurate rifles out of the box, and made in USA. The fact that a barrel swap is just a few simple tools away and done at home is another bonus.

I've heard that from a few chicks now.

The Tikka is going to be almost double what you are paying. I just bought a heavy barrel Tikka and it is extremely accurate. It almost makes me look like I know how to shoot.

I have the Mod. 200 in a .243,It's a shooter for sure right out of the box the receiver is tapped for scope mounts,it comes with a free float barrel and the action is pillar bedded,It's basically a Savage 110 without the accutrigger don't think twice about getting one they're great little guns,,you wont be disappointed

gawd damn they are fun to shoot.

the 200 was a kick ass rifle. i had bore sighted the scope at home the night before and got out to the range and wow.

it shoots better than i can. i was quite happy with 20 shots in less than a 6" dia circle with another 2-3 straglers in a fairly good cross wind on the first day after about 30 min of shooting with it.

and the marlin 60 was just a kick to play with. its amazing how quick 15 rounds goes thru a .22 LOL
