So.. I want to life my '93 YJ a few inches. The springs are pretty much flat, those 235's are barely not rubbing and I'd like to run 31's with a little space for articulation (big word!) Since I just got laid off and am pretty much poor.... I'd like to find a cheap lift for it. We have a lot of u-pull it yards around here which I love. I'd like to know if anybody has ever pulled springs off a stock rig, such as a XJ, S-10, Ranger, Exploder, to lift a Wrangler. Are any of the dozens of midsize SUV's in the wrecking yards a bolt on lift right out of the gate? Any help or direction would be appreciated, even if you just call me an idiot, i'm ok with that too! btw I haven't posted much, but have been lurking for a few years!

unless your springs are negatively arching, they are still ok. they are supposed to be flat. find a pair of wagoneers and take all four front springs.

You can make a Frankenstein pack. Just measure what you got on your jeep now. From eye to eye as well as total length. Then wonder around the yard looking for some that have more arch. You may only need to pull a few of the leaves. and install them into your pack. I think S10 rears are close and are arched so you could slip them nto your pack. Remember the bolt that holds the pack together may need to be replaced. Or just remove a couple of your middle of the pack leaves and use that to look around in the junk yard.

I was reading that the wagonner springs will give it a couple of inches, however I don't want to stretch my wheelbase, mess with drivelines etc. I'll have to look and see how the spring mounts on the axle, but I've read it doesn't bolt up exactly the same. Something about offset ??

Since you don't have a job, spend the rest of the night searching this site. :smokin: Sounds to me like you need to learn alot. There are probably hundreds of posts just like this one. All you have to do is search. It will be much faster to find the answer you are looking for or at least one that will suit you by searching and not wating for days for someone to answer. Good luck. :D

Go the frankenpack route. Like said, find springs with more arch and add/subtract leaves in your pack to get desired results. You can even use longer leaves, just cut them to the length you need them to be, just don't try to drill new center pin holes.

Yea thanks, that's what I did, that's why I asked a question. Can you put waggy springs on a YJ and NOT stretch the wheelbase, which I don't want to do? Why bother replying A*S.

this kinda attitude belongs in the hardcore forum. the non hardcore forum is for newbs, we say "search" and then actually point them in the right direction. quit being buttholes and get back to the tech.
YES you can put the waggy springs on and NOT stretch the wheelbase. but you wouldve already known that if you had actually searched/lurked.

You are a retard, you don't know shit. Shut your mouth, lose the attitude and listen for a bit you might learn something. Your springs are fine, if you are just wanting to run 31"s don't mess with springs. Go buy yourself a set of TJ flares and you will have the same articulation (not less from a higher lift spring) and more clearance from the TJ flare. Done. Problem solved and all for about 100 bucks for new flares or even less if you can grab a used set at the pick and pull.

Whats he gonna do? Redrill the center hole for the spring pack? Flip them around and STILL have to mess with driveshaft lengths? Too much work and No gain IMO. TJ flares would fix his problem and only take 1-2 hours to install. He keeps the good articulation of the stock springs, gains tire clearance for ANY tire he chooses to run later on down the road and even makes the jeep look a little better while hes at it.

Another cheap option is start watching the for sale forums and find someone who is upgrading from a small lift to a bigger one. For instance, my 4" BDS lift springs cost me about $250 used. You may luck out and find someone selling off a 2.5" lift.

TJ flares as suggested are a good idea too - cost $50-$100 used.

Yeah TJ flares and cut the fenderwells bigger.

Hmm the TJ flare idea is a good one. I'll browse the wrecking yard for some 2.5" springs for my 'franken pack'. Thanks to everybody who answered my question without the attitude. Yes I do know how to use search, but didn't find what I was looking for.

You could look into a 1" body lift with the polyurethane bushings. You want to have a cheap lift but I'm positive you'll end up spending more than you planned. You can try longer shackles and the fender trimming is good too. There is a lot you can with trimming the body. There was a neat article in Jp that put 40's on a stock suspension YJ but altered the body big time. Good luck with the build though.
