The Chevy is going into the shop for some front end work, I wouldnt mind taking the time and doing a SAS, but since this is my daily driver I dont think that would be the way to go, I do wheel the truck from time to time, but I dont wheel to many places that I really need a solid axle, Might just wait till I get another truck..

They are right. Boots were just a flashy accessory from the 80s 90s that did more harm then good. On a side note, I have a set of purple ones I'm not using:D

For "other" stuff, Dave's Auto and Truck service on north 2nd ave, just behind Tip Top on Linclonway. 232-4954
Also on east Lincolnway is "Anything Scout", no signs up or anything, but they are on south side in a yellow building, lots of Scouts out back.

G&S towing in Des Moines has the city contract and does some county towing, they have an abandoned vehicle auction every third Thursday for the city stuff and one Saturday a month for the county vehicles. (I forget what Saturday)
Last city auction had an older CJ5 Jeep with some 16-48 ground hawgs, but on stock axles. They get a ton of Explorers, and they also had a nissan something last time. Lots of project vehicles, but lots of torn up junk, and most of the bidders are salvage yards, but some of the stuff is worth WAY more for parts than complete.
Next DM PD auction is the 29th at 1:00.
You get certificates with them to get a title so it can be licensed.

Don't laugh but I vote XJ and not just because thats what I wheel. They can be found cheap, lifted with 3-4.5" will clear 34-10.5 LTBs(best tire for Small lift XJ or any small rig) and can take a beating. AND they are Fuel Injected.

Samis 'can' be found cheap but are getting hard to find.

Toys are the same as Samis...

SWB Jeeps are ether rust buckets and people think they are worth gold.

K5s and FS Broncos can still be found for ok prices, most will have lots of rust.

ZJs are coming down on price to the public in the last year or so. Starting to see more of them on the trails. The V8s are screamers for racing and good power on trail. Only issue is the axles suck, good thing is XJ fronts bolt in and with a bit of fab you can swap in an 8.8 or whatever axle.

I can go on but no point. What kind of price you want to spend?

How small wheelbase are we talking here? Like smaller than a 73-87 Chevy shortbed? If so, I recommend a Toyota. If not, Find a K20 or better yet, a K30 and shorten it. Theres all kinds of shit on the Des Moines craigslist if you type in the right keywords.

SAS does NOT= Cheaper<Anything

1/2ton D44 out of a 73-87 Chevy would have bolted up in the front, and a 14sf would work in the back. Just my thoughts.

Might be out of your price range but I've got a 99 TJ Sahara for sale at $5000.

3.5" re lift with 1.25 body lift
Ford 8.8
HP 30
4.11/4.10 gears
4.0 with manual tranny
35" dunlop muds
Newer Tcase with SYE

Needs a rear drive shaft (have opinion flange), top is kinda shot (some stitching came out, drivers window broke folding it down in the cold) but I don't even keep it on, and the rear brake lines need to be tacked in.

Had it for 5 years and the only part replaced other than maintenance and upgrades was the ps pump. Knew the previous owner well so know the history of the jeep since 2000 when he bought it.

Selling because a baby is on the way.
