"Hi, I've converted my Samurai to a coil suspension, but my flex brings the suck because my springs are too stiff limiting my articulation.
Can someone tell me what coil rate might be best for my application?
Thank you so much cause my Engrish brings the suck" :p

*Did I get that correct?
*What is your application and who's kit are you using?

Translation good, get him some "QA1-150#" springs for a softer ride or "QA1-180#" for him a more firm ride.

I run a 3 link front a rear on my zuk and I bought some QA1 coilover coils. Just the coils from them now....I used 14" all 4 corners with 175 lb spring rate in front and 150 lb spring rate in rear. It rides smooth and flexes like a sumbitch!! I put spring keepers on top and bottom of all coils also. With a 92 inch wheelbase, I can ramp a 1000 on a 30 degree RTI ramp. You can see from the pics how well it will flex. Also from the pics, I have since upgraded to a Bilstein 5125 shock with 14.3" travel.

cool pics, I can't wait to get mine done and rolling. I just got the new flywheel put on the 4.3. And I'll soon get the new fuel pump and regulator put on. maybe by the weekend. should be ready to move under it's own power by then, I got my fingers crossed.
. where'd you get the coils? do they have 18" travel?

HELL YEAH it has 18" of travel!!!

Just google them. Just right off the top, I found these on JEGS.
http://www.jegs.com/p/QA1/743889/10002/-1 I am not saying buy from here, but search my friend on the internet and forums. I think I paid around $50 each for these. Just get what ever appication suits your needs. But I love my QA1s.

i am planning on using TJ coils from a jeep, know a guy that has used them, they can be a bit tall, so plan your buckets appropriately. also, i am not sure they like to stretch all that much

TJ coils are too damn stiff and wont flex for shit. I have seen people use QA1 coils, Civic coils, & Ford Aerostar coils for the most part. You just need a smaller coil is all. My friends always make fun of me calling my coils BIC clicky pen springs, until I out flex and out crawl them.

Hutch 410, good coils depends very much of your suzuki's weight and coil placement.

I have used or tested Audi 80rears, MB124 fronts, Honda Accord 2.2i fronts, Lada combi rears and BMW325 rears.

My SJ410 tin top has Audi coils F/R. Front is good but rear is little soft when zuk is full loaded.
My SJ413 LWB has S-A-W coilovers front and MB124 coils rear. Rears are good when half loaded but with full expedition gears they bottoms some.

Hondas are long and probably good for light weight zuk. Ladas were too soft for me but my friends SJ410 with Hilux axles was perfect with them.

BMW's are little short and soft for me but might work also in light zuk.

Hope this helped some.

i had xj coils in front and tj coils in rear.
They were both too stiff for a samurai. How about astrovan coils??

Weird, I had tj coils in the back of my old sammy and thought they were pretty soft. They were from the wreckers so maybe they were bagged

I have no ideas cause I'm on leaves, but I have notice a huge difference in the vehicle choices for donors. americans are using heavy van and jeep stuff, and overseas guys are using volvo, honda, and bmw stuff. hmmmm??? maybe we are going at it all wrong. any americans look at car stuff?? I would think car springs would be lighter and better rates for our light weight zuks.

suspension speacialists (blue coil) has 150lbs 3" ID springs and you can get them up to 18" long.. Perfect for a zuk.
Problem is they are $75 US each.

I would think car springs would be lighter and better rates for our light weight zuks. something i ran into in the junkyards may be of merit here. i pulled a set of coils from the rear of a chevy car, i think it was a corsica, and they were progressively TAPERED. not progressively wound, but tapered. the wire starts thin, then becomes as thick as a jeep coil in the center before tapering back to thin, small dia. at the bottom. these would be great for sammi builds. these are easy to remove from the donor car. rear springs from a tracker may be another low buck choice with stiffness between the corsica spring and a jeep spring.
