: Coil Spring rates

Who knows what is a good spring rate up front for a Sami with 1.6 sidekick engine? I am looking for a spring with good behaviour on rocks and not too soft for dunes.

I think something around 150 lbft is ok, or not?

Somebody know the spring rate of Spidertrax yellow rig (Old one), or Arachnid, or Mike Schaffer rigs??

150 is probably too soft.

I'm running a 1.6, strong (~100 lbs) bumper with a X8000i and use 200 lb/in springs and 175 lb/in in the rear. I'd say go 175 or 200 depending on how much bumper weight you have. If you plan to do dunes, you may want to stay on the heavy side as well.

I believe Eddie's yellow zook from Spidertrax runs a 4" coil thats 14" long with a coil rate of 150 :flipoff2:

The Schaffer and RRO kits come with 150 lb springs.

We're using 150lb springs for the coil kits we carry.

You'd be surprised at the vehicles running comparable springs. On the front and rear of my Sidekick project, I'm using front 6cyl ZJ OME springs that also have a spring rate of 150lbs. The ZJ springs would be TALL stuff for most Zuk applications though.

If we were putting a diesel engine into a Samurai though with coils, I would be going to a 160lb spring.

I agree with okcrawler. I'd run something in at least 175 range up front.

I run 150 stock TJ coils up front. They are a dime a dozen from any TJ owner, and I run a 4.3, Warn 8000 and a fair bit of extra steel. I like a soft ride :-)

And what is the spring rate for stock Samurai springs?

stock suzuki rear springs are around 160# or something like that and the fronts are around 255# if I remember right

THe spidertrax rig is using 12" coils with a 150# rate last I talked to tom and eddie

I have 150# up front and on the coil overs in the rear I'm running 130# and 150#. I love the way they ride. As long as you have them spaced a decent amount you'll have plenty of stability, loads of flex, and a nice soft ride. If you've got adjustable shocks then you've got it made cause you can make the ride as stiff as you would like. If you plan on carrying alot of gear, parts, tools, cooler, ect., I would certainly shy away from any coil wit a rate less than 150#
