We have 120 acre property with a baja race track, swamps, drag strip, and a few rocks (working on a man made rock course). We have a few mountain trails around, nothing too hard, and working with BLM to try to open up a few cool spots. A few of us are thinking of a trip to the black hills this summer maybe, might look you guys up.

Will do, I bet there will be about 4-8 rigs. Half are full size that don't care about body damage and others are fullsize axled rigs.

We've wheeled the John Blue area which is just on our side of the hill between Lovell and the mountain. Nothing hard really there unless a few feet of snow but when we go your welcome to come along, in the summer it wouldn't be too far of drive over the hill.

I am in Jackson Hole....

In the last 10yrs of wheeling around here (150 miles in any direction) I have yet to find any really good trails. All just scenic shit....although western Idaho has some great stuff I just haven't made it over there yet. Perfect for me would be sweet (difficult) trails south of Alpine or between Jackson and Pinedale. Tons of stuff around Bounderant but it is all just dirt road cruising.

There is just a ton of land to explore and I have only lived here 15yrs. I would think there might be some good rocks around Dubois but don't get up there often to explore.

Would be interested in wheeling with anyone on the western part of the state. My rig is pretty capable! :grinpimp:

If you go out in the desert areas north or south of town you can find a little but nothin real hard (still lookin). Mostly mud and snow though.

ssyork
06-11-2009, 11:15 AM
In high school we used to play out south, but like you said always mud or snow no rocks. We aslo used to go out to the old 76 road north of town then cut across and come out on the interstate. That was mainly to shoot dogs though. Only thing out there was dry hardpack, snow or mud.

Dstol-14
06-11-2009, 01:43 PM
Ya if you go up and around cherokee peak just north west of town we have found a few little places to go and if you can get back in the fox farm area without pissin off the ranchers there's a couple little places. But your right for the most part mud, snow, and hardpack is what we have so you better have beer and guns lol.

ssyork
06-11-2009, 02:40 PM
I thought fox farms was there to drink and shoot or take chicks. Never thought about trying to wheel there in high school! There would probably be some pretty sweet places to go if the ranchers would let a guy on.

Dstol-14
06-11-2009, 07:24 PM
Ya that was the place in high school for all of that great stuff to. If your cool with the Espy's though and dont shoot there deer then normally they'll let you go in. It's really fun in the winter though down in the creek bottoms lots of broken shit comes out of there.

ssyork
06-12-2009, 12:16 AM

307rockdog
06-12-2009, 05:03 PM
there trail ratings are easy to difficult../. most trails can be scouted on foot with ease...here is a pic of the trails... you can also go to the town of rangleys web site.. the town is buggie freindly so buzzing into town for ice is no problem... like moab used to be 10 years ago...

I am headed to Sheridan this friday, and won't be home till sunday. I have to get the wife's taco serviced (that didn't come out right:D) on the 5th, so the 6th is the first date.
It snowed here last night, so I think we are going to be getting some weather pretty soon. I'm afraid if we move it back any more, it will be a snow run instead.

As it stands now, myself and a F4 from Baggs, maybe 2 explorers from here. Not sure about anyone else yet.

If you guys want to move it to the following sunday (13th), we may be able to... I'll just have to dress warm (since my heater doesn't work very well)

No, you can not take a fullsize up there. All of the trails have been classified as atv trails and that means a 50" or less vehicle width.

On a side note. It would not be hard to drive a decently built rig all the way up there. There are two access's that are specifically for trucks; however those roads are private and used only for taking caring of the reservoirs.

It would make for a really good jeep trail, but it'll never happen.

I leave for AZ in March and dont want to waste for a years membership, but I wnat to take a trip there once or twice before i leave.

Technically we do have a 3 day pass, we did that for desert race guys that come and tune their race trucks on our track. Best bet though is just get ahold of me and we'll just do a play day and everyone is welcome.

Hey Shane thanks again,

Going to have to start a new post with some pics. Got my JK sitting up on 42's, just waiting on the axles to arrive. Did some body trimming yesterday so she can flex out without rubbing in the rear. Front axle should take care of the full turn rubbing we have and then its out to play.

If anyone is out and about, stop by and say Hi. We are on Elk Street, just about a mile north of I-80 on the west side of the street. Still waiting on our signs, but there is a banner sign on the front of the building.

I sold my bender when I got divorced for lack of room and am kicking myself, once cash flow improves a bit, still hurting from the start up a little, then I plan to get another bender. I know a few people that have benders and are very good with them. Give me a call when you are ready and I can put you in touch with them. One has offered to bring one of his to the shop and I am probably going to take him up on that. He has been very busy and hard to reach but sure we will be in touch with him soon.

its awesome. all rock crawling, body damage almost a guarantee. Atleast one locker of some kind. We are heading up Wednesday the 30th and going to do the tourist thing that afternoon. Then wheel thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday 2 of us are heading home but 2 other guys are staying to wheel, then home on Monday. Staying at Wild Bills Campground. Heard there is a great fireworks display at Mt Rushmore on Saturday night too, so we might hit it, depending on how things go.

Sounds good. I'm not sure I would want to head down there w/out lockers. You wold hold up as good as the rest of us. We all take what ever spare parts we have. Specially stub and axle shafts. 4.88's w/ your 231 t case would work fine. 3 of the four of us have doublers and the other guy has an atlas, so we are all pretty low. But you'd be ok.

FYI there are no guns aloud in National parks, so if you can't leave them somewhere, make sure you do not let them be seen in the park or you're in big trouble. There are no trails for wheeling in the park either. You best bet for mountain trails would probably be over on the Cody side. Just grab a forest service map. Then you can shoot on National Forest. To be completely legal you need a conservation stamp to shoot any coyotes or small game. Take a look on the powellvalley4wheelers.com web site and maybe someone might be going somewhere when you are here. Some of us are heading to the black hills though so we won't be around.

Here's the rule on gun in yellowstone. They did breifly legalize conceiled weapons with permit, for like 3 months, then Obama started in office..... hmmm....

Weapons and firearms
Weapons, including state-permitted concealed weapons, are not allowed in Yellowstone. Unloaded firearms may be transported in a vehicle when the weapon is cased, broken down or rendered inoperable, and kept out of sight. Ammunition must be placed in a separate compartment of the vehicle.
http://www.yellowstonepark.com/MoreToKnow/ParkRegulations.aspx

In yellowstone chekc out the usuals, old faithful, the lower falls, mamoth, etc. You'll see plenty of buffalo and elk so don't be that guy that stop in the middle of the road to look at the first buffalo he sees.

Where are you going in/out at?

What about the white dodge towing the red full-size on rocks? What year? Is it stock? Manual or auto? I thought he was gone catch hell on that road but he just kept motoring along. We were getting close till we saw a mtn lion.

Sheridan, WY here.

I have a 1956 Ford F600 that I'm currently swapping to 4x4. It's more of a daily driver/business truck than something intended to get too far into the mountain, but I'd like it to be able to if I ever find the need, lol. Also have an '89 Bronco (for sale) and a '69 Bronco (not for sale, lol)
http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p105/Stephen1967/Abby/DSCF6760-1.jpg

Be running Hummer wheels up front (they would be the same sort of size as what I have on there now, just much wider and not on 22.5" wheels), trying to find a Cummins 5.9 for it. Still looking for axles I can afford, lol. I've come across a few donor trucks but have no idea where I can put the rest of the truck till it sells (I can't exactly put an axle-less truck on the road. And I have litterly no where else to put it. Whats that you say? There is a huge empty parking lot behind my house? Why yes, yes there is, and for whatever reason the people that own it might hate me I think, lol. I have to work on my truck half way on the street cause they can't stand anyone ever in their lot lol. Got to love the irony eh?

I don't know if it would work for you ChevyTank, but one of the trucks I've been looking at was an '83 Crew Cab pickup and I have no idea what to do with the body, lol. If I went that route I wouldn't be looking for much from it as it's in my way more than anything.

If anyone is in Sheridan feel free to message me. We're basically in Wyoming but too far from anywhere else... so it sorta sucks finding parts sometimes, lol.

dezrik

Sheridan, WY here.
Still looking for axles I can afford, lol.

Most of the time its cheaper to buy a entire truck, Most people who sell the entire truck don't know what axles are what and look at the value of the truck rather then the axles plated in gold under them.

boost_junky9
12-06-2011, 08:40 AM
Every time i drive past that truck i think about how it need some 2.5 ton rockwell axles under it and large tires.

Stephen67
12-07-2011, 08:46 PM
I've debated Rockwells. It's going to at least have a Dana 60 up front. Still need to research them out, as I can't seem to find any around and it makes me wonder what parts are going to run me when I do find them. I recon I will end up needing a couple donors as what has the Cummins I want doesn't always have the best axles, seeing as not all Dana's are the same.

It's got 37" tires on it right now, but they are thin. I'm planning on running Hummer tires under it, same height but a foot wide.

If you know of any donors around, I'd be interested. My Damascus knives have been selling like hot cakes lately so I should have enough to do it right in no time.

boost_junky9
12-08-2011, 09:37 PM
In the past 2 years i've sold 2 sets of chevy one tons I don't know don't know of anymore currently. I'll keep my eyes open for donors i run across stuff all the time im just to broke to act on them myself with this lovely economy. If I'd known you where looking for a cummins i had a line complete 98 dodge with a 24 valve cummins a month ago for $1200 it ran drove I want for myself but it sold in a couple days.

MNorby
12-08-2011, 09:39 PM
Friend in Gillette has a 60 for sale if that is what you are referring too not finding.
also know of a set of tons for sale in billings too.

Stephen67
12-08-2011, 09:53 PM
Man, $1200? I could have used a deal like that, lol.

Part of the problem isn't just finding a Dana 60, but rather one that has the gearing I'm looking for and the right kind of Dana 60. The late 70s Chevy ones seem to be the ideal. And right now I don't have a truck in which I can drive anywhere to get them, so if it's not local, and nothing is really local to Sheridan but Sheridan, it tends to be an issue.

I figure builds take two of three things; money, time, effort. I seem to be running off of time and effort at the moment, lol.

Update: One my truck buddies just caught this, I need gearing around 3.00-3.31 because I'll be running a Diesel. 1800 RPMs is my ideal at 65. There's a big mistake avoided, 3.00 and 4.56 are way different, ha.

boost_junky9
12-14-2011, 10:56 AM
So you best bet would be find a 89-93 dodge diesel and use most of their drive train. If the truck has an auto it will have a passenger side drop dana 61 front axle which has a 3.07 ratio the only diffrence between a dana 60 and dana 61 is the pinion is offset more. Other than that they are the same axle. But that is the only way you find axle with a stock ratio close to 3.00 you are shooting for. But going this way you would get a cummins and your axles in one donor truck. Their stock auto's are crap and will blow up if you turn up the injection pump.

You can visit the powell club forum if you would like
www.powellvalley4wheelers.com
Mostly local stuff though.

Post your favor on our website, in our forum. backcountrycrawlers.com
there is also a forum on several other club's websites. here are the ones I can think of. Trailheaders in Gillette, Cheyenne Trail crew, Rough Country 4x4 Club also in Cheyenne, Wind River 4x4 assoc in the Lander - Riverton area THe Wanna Rock guys in Casper apparently no longer have a website and its rumor that the club has dissolved. If there are any other clubs in Wyoming, I'd love to know about them myself.
