Thanks,
Don
Also, The General has issued a -- Man Your Battle Stations - an all hands on deck order.
Stop the Feb. 10 ban on the sale of youth OHVs

Thanks for your service!
The General
Sir yes sir...
Done.
Them are sneaky little buggars aren't they?
Ban OHV's for younger children under the guise of lead poisoning?
While I do support efforts by Consumer Product Safety Commission to protect children from lead content in products that truly present a risk to children, I do not believe the Commission intended that metal parts on ATVs and motorcycles be included in that regulation because they do not present a lead risk to children.
Grrr....:mad3:

aphantomduck 01-29-2009, 05:20 PM I'm in the industry and have been made aware of this a couple of days ago.
This is a tough one as Congress passed the Act and it was signed by the President.
This is an industry issue and I'm not too sure if the general public comments are of much concern to the CPSC. It seems to be some "foot draging" and a technical issue more than a "consumer alert", man the battle stations issue.
If you chose to comment, substantive comments (technically inclinded) are what likely will make the difference.
The olde "we don't like this" letters will not get much attention.
cuttenkid 01-29-2009, 05:40 PM Are you selecting not to obey an order?
If so, I assign you to kitchen duties.
The General
TomJeeps 01-29-2009, 05:43 PM The lead technically is not an issue, as long as the vehicle is recycled properly at the end of it's life, lead containing parts are not sanded, ground etc and safety precautions not taken. Lead is a hot button issue, but has been 99.9% eliminated by just taking it out of our gas, as far as cause and effect money can be better spent elsewhere...TJ:smokin:

Sir, no sir!
Just wondering out loud if the CPSC and Congress will give weight to the usual general comments (kind of a show of force) or if indeed they will act upon valid industry concerns.
General Don sir... when you speak of kitchen duty, you know that I've not missed too many meals :)

cuttenkid 01-30-2009, 01:35 PM Steve,
Just as important is for local dealers (who are voters and businessmen/women) to contact their congressional reps. in a personal manner and ask them for help. I have heard back from several who are doing that as we speak. That could be effective.
I'll join ya in the kitchen later.

I think your right on. The CMDA sent an alert along the same lines out a couple of days ago and due to comments to the Johnson Valley stuff, I just missed it.
TomJeeps 01-30-2009, 02:15 PM Just a little techo psychobabble about lead, just to see what your up against "officially"...TJ:smokin:

TheTonka 02-11-2009, 10:38 AM This applies to strictly new toys right?
Now what about parts for "youth" ATVs? We are looking at getting my stepson a new quad or dirtbike, and plan on turning his TTR50 into a campsite toy for me. I know there are lot's of parts to make it a little more comfortable for my big fat ass, but will that market be effected???
Stupid government. :shaking:

Well the real problem is what's the next problem were going to crash into, as our journey down this slippery slope accelerates, sure read the MSDS lead is a BAAAAADDDDDD thing, or is it? If you pull the Material Safety Data Sheet for any material bikes are made of, you could make just as effective of an argument for banning that to. Guess the only safe way to get though life is to just stay home, play computer games but wait, are those not to toxic waste? hey I know just send it all to China...TJ:shaking:

No, you cant sell parts or service on kids units. As far as the second part of you question,,who knows, nobody believed this would actually go into effect and look where we are now?
