Ok heres the deal. I was supposed to be picking up a 9" with discs and 5.13's from a member on here tomorrow. I had evrything set up to pick it up, money, directions, date and time I would be there, EVERYTHING. So I e-mailed him last night to make sure everything was to go as planned, and he sent me an e-mail back that said he already sold them to someone else :mad3:

So now Im shit outta luck on that deal :shaking:

I was searching all day online for disc brake conversion kits, and I found 2. Both were over $400. Plus I have to gear it and get a full spool for my front end. I have $600 to do all of this. But with the price of those kits, its not possible.

Is there a cheaper way of doing this conversion?? Im gonna keep searching around. But if someone has done this for less than those kits cost, could you post up what you had to buy to make it work?? I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks

I was gonna suggest maybe some Explorer brakes but glad you found the info you were looking for.

Sorry bout your luck on the purchase, I know how that feels. The guy I dealt with didn't screw me out of it but just decided to go with the local, simple sale rather than ship it. Understandable but it still sucked. Good luck.

cut your own brackets out of 1/4" or 3/8" - get some chevy front calipers, mid 80's to mid 90's model 4x4 truck or blazer fronts. (~20 bucks each)

then i used a 78-79 ford truck/bronco front rotor (i got them for 16 a piece)

i had to grind the flange of the axle shaft a little for the rotor hat to fit over the shaft.

drill and tap 2 holes each side in bracket after you determine where you want to caliper lined up at.

then your good to go for less than 100 bucks.

If you want a park brake-

Explorer 8.8 disc brakes: everything from the axle flange out - ~$100 at junkyard

Caliper bracket bolts directly onto "late model big bearing" Ford 9"
Re-drill rotors for 5x5.5 (may have to open up center hole of rotor to fit over register on axle flange...depends on axle)
make 1/8" spacer to go between rotor and axle flange
get an aftermarket Ford 9" bearing retainer (is not trapped by bearing)
Park brake cables- (YMMV)
Use Explorer passenger and Jeep Grand Cherokee driver for driver's side frame mounted equalizer
Use both Jeep GC cables for center mounted equalizer
