If you built a buggy......What size tube would you use?

Full tube chasis.....1.75" or 2"??

1" for shock hoops and such?

I think it would be a mixture for me. I'd personally go no bigger than 1.75"

I am using 1 5/8, with 1" for odds and ends. My existing cage is 1.5".

If your going to use HREW I would use 2"x.120 wall for the frame, and the main structure on the cage. But to do some of the little hoops and stuff I used a mix of 1.5", 1.75", and 1".

Well Shane after everybody else’s comment and I thought about for a sec. You should base your tube on what you’re going to do. i.e. How heavy are you going? If lightweight is a goal 1.75" will be lighter than 2". But if you’re going to run heavy you'll need the 2" for safety:D

I will be lighter than what i am now...but im still kind of heavy with the d44's......I figure that with 1.75" I could shave ~500 lbs off of the rig?

Im pretty damn close to 3k right now!

no way it'll save anywhere near that. i know 2" .120 weighs around 2# a ft. my whole chasis only weighs about 650#.

since i did the clicking already maybe i can save someone the time....

2" .120 = 2.409 lb/ft
1.75" .120 = 2.089 lb/ft
1.5" .120 = 1.769 lb/ft

But im also taking into effect that i have 1/4 wall 2x6 bumpers front and rear...and the rear has a tire swing with cas can rack and high lift mount!..........And im shedding body and tub

poppycock

then you will definatly drop some big weight. the body and frame were much heavier than i thought they would be. all my cage work probably weighs about the same as the body and frame it replaced and i've got like 240' of 2" .120 in it.

Thats quite a bit more tube than i thought i would be using.....I figured about 125-150'.......

poppycock

it was actually 210' 2" and 10' 1.5". i thought i would only need about 150' when i started but.... :D

This may sound dumb, but what I did was bought a small stick of 1.75" and 2", after just looking at this and that, made me get the 1.75" die for the bender 1st

That is my problem now....Going to buy dies for the bender.....

I currently have a 1.75" .120 wall cage right now......And it has been through 8 rollovers! A few of those were very hard roll overs!!! And that cage has held up quite well!!

I think the weight difference from 1.75 to the 2" would allow me to support the frame in a couple spots and be stronger??

2" is good stuff, think I had the hardest roll of my life the other night and my cage/buggy is still in one piece. The only damage was the front end and my hand.

row boat was coming along fine till no work was done and hte bender had to be returned... so here i sit on a 700 dollar motor, 150 dollar tranny, 400 in tube, 600 in link bars 250 in axles and some other misc expenses and no way to finish it...

Sounds like you're already pretty invested, how much does a bender cost?

I just happen to be in possesion of a bender and various tools to do some work, however we only dream of bending tube.
