I ran into a guy today that told me there are people putting turbos on Saturn I-4's. I laughed at first, then he said that they were getting +500hp on high test pump gas for less than $1500 all in. With the addition of NOS and specialty fuels, +1000hp was easily possible. They are supposedly pushing SL2's down the strip in the low 7's. I'm sure this engine could be adapted to work with a reliable trans. so has anyone considered putting one of these ultralights in a crawler?

Its a long read with a lot of BSing, but here's a buildup using a Saturn 4cyl to a Toyota tranny.

I would be real surprised if you pulled off 500 hp for $1500 though. The motors will do it, but it takes a little more coinage than that. Figure $1500-$2000 just for the turbo setup (cheap turbo, wastegate, intercooler, piping), then you need to get the ECU to play happily with the positive manifold pressure that it wasn't designed to see, figure $500+ for that, then you've gotta get a tranny/clutch setup that will live under that hp/tq, that's another $500-$1000+... you get the idea. They work great, just not cheap.
