: atlas or 205?
frankie fountain 08-22-2002, 05:20 PM i was going to order a atlas 3.0 but the 1.96 gear reduction of the 205 is what i need i will be runing 7.50 axle ratio with 37'' to 42'' tires what is the weight difference of the two less the adapter .if i use a 205 it will be a ford drop for the mog axles .also has anybody broken a atlas.so help me make a decsion so i can get my case on the way.:p
elf_cruiser 08-22-2002, 05:28 PM strength wise i would say they are comparable if you get the 32spl front output on the Atlas. Personally i would stick with the 205 'cause it's cheaper, and aparently 3:1 gears for it are gonna be avail. next year. So get the 205, if it's not quite low enuff, swap gears into it in about 6 mths!!!
The Jerk 08-22-2002, 05:29 PM what trany? what kinda wheeling? etc...

My Ford NP205 weighs in at 141lbs. not sure of the atlas, other than WAY lighter.
elf_cruiser 08-22-2002, 06:18 PM Actually the Atlas is not much lighter than that. 110 dry is what AA says.

Hes never heard of Frankie Fountain and the Reaper huh?
cruiserrg 08-22-2002, 06:51 PM Frankie,
I plan to also go with MOG axles and drivers drop. I decided to use a NP241 out of a 88 newer chevy pickup. Reason is weight savings, stock for my 700r4, and cheap. I am only going to run a 4.3 v6 so I think the case will hold up for me.
With the HP you running I don't know that the 241 is an option. If not I would look at a NP205 for cost savings, but it is heavier, plus you need an adapter. Don't know if you need one for the atlas. If you get a Ford 205 it should have 32 spline outputs
One last option a ORD doubler with GM203 to Ford 205. This may be a good option for you with HP considerations and having more gear choices. It also should bolt up to a 4l60e since they are basically the same as a 700r4.
Also if you think the Doubler is an option I am selling mine to help finace the MOG axles. Its listed in the forsale section if your interested. and good luck on the buildup.
Reuben
badassjeepguy 08-22-2002, 07:26 PM being that your running mog axles i feel the 205 will be plenty strong and you sure wont need lower gearing than what the 205 has.... save you $$$ for more broken shiat, you know the way you are you will break something im sure... ehh? finboy!

I had to do a double take, he needs to put his name and location back. :flipoff2:
I don't know about the strength of the atlas but if the 205 is stronger you need to go that route.
Oh and skip the supercharger on the LS1, they don't really like em. If you want to put some power down PM or E-mail me and I can get you a list of parts that will be overall less $$$ than a super charger setup and produce more HP, not ping and create heat. My buddies SCCA Firebird puts down Z06 vette eating hp without the bottle. :D He's a GM shop manager and knows his shiznit.
onetoncv 08-22-2002, 08:09 PM either one don't forget we can 2 1/2 ton the driveline if you want- Jess

BTW change the show message box to "the beginning" and then check all 3 folders. Inbox, sent items and message tracking on the right side. I can retype this and misspell a bunch of shit if it helps. ;)

nvrenuf 08-23-2002, 01:53 PM Seems like I heard/read somewhere that the Atlas has a max torque rating of 500 lbs. While I have never seen anything about a max torque rating on the 205 I would think it has to be higher since it was used with the Cummins turbo diesel.

frankie fountain 08-23-2002, 09:40 PM ok i have decided that at 40 lbs heavier that i woud rather have a 205 for the shear strenght and i need the 1.96 gear reduction over the atlas 3.o gear reduction.i cald advance adapters and they had what i needed a 4l60 e or 700r4 to a ford 205 adapter thats pretty darn trick so it is on the way thanks for all of your advice i realy wonted a 205 anyway.:D
