I have searched for this but have not been able to find any good pics or info. I would like to see some soft top sami bed stretches and maybe get some info on how it was done, what kind of problems you ran into and how you fixed it. I'm planning to link my suspension in the near future, or when the money comes around, and would like to extend the wheel base. If any one could point me in the right direction, or post up some pics it would be greatly appreciated.

when you say be stretch do you mean as in streching a sami or a sj413k? (pick up style?)

sandszuk is interested in making his samurai into a fun sand toy. stretching and linking the back makes a lot of sense for his application, the twist is the sand part!

here are some links to threads with pics or other links to stretch threads. it is pretty straightforward once you see how it is done. once you have some ideas, i'm sure you'll be able to work it out easily.

like i mentioned before, add your length at the rear of the frame, do not stretch from the middle. the frame widens out a bit, but is otherwise straight after the bend and main crossmember behind the seats. after you have added the length you want for your seats and storage, cut the bed behind the targa bar and set it to the rear. the rest is sheetmetal on straight, flat panels. the fuel tank will have to be moved back (good time to add a fuel cell), along with the rear shock mounts. you could leave the shock mount crossmember in place for strength, and build a new one in the back wherever it fits best. as for the axle, i would get your ideas on suspension from your sand rails. rock crawling links are usually short and will force your wheels into the sand when you gun it. you might want a longer, softer suspension with a little bit of squat for running the dunes. only thing left is the driveshaft, that is an easy one. all in all, the bed stretch should an easy job compared to a lot of other mods.

sandszuk, after you read up and get some thoughts together, i would recommend starting a new thread called "sandszuk's sand samurai" or something like that in order to get attention. begin with discussing your ideas, and move on to making it a build thread. that way, it is not a question thread, rather a discussion leading to production. not too many sand trucks have been developed here, i think sharing what you learn as you go through it will be valuable to the board, even if it does take a long time to do.
