: 84 350 axles
greenbomb 02-02-2009, 12:21 AM guy on cl is partin out his 84 f350, and i was wondering what kind of axles came on them stock, since they are probably stock, and if they would fit in my 78 f150.
basically what im hoping for is that they are 1 ton axles, and that they will fit with no problems, but i know that the liklihood of that happening is slim/0 lol
thanks guys
outfitter540 02-02-2009, 09:48 AM in 84 the F350's came with the dana 50 TTB in the front, it was in the later part of that series so there might be a slim/0 chance it has a 60. The rear will be a FF, not sure if they had the sterling that early, maybe a dana 70 out back?
greenbomb 02-02-2009, 11:53 PM what is an FF?
stickbug 02-03-2009, 12:21 AM full floater.
greenbomb 02-03-2009, 01:00 AM oh ok duh lol.. thankks guys
greenbomb 02-03-2009, 01:28 AM and ttb is not a solid axle right?

TTB= Twin Traction Beam.

X2. It most likely has a Dana 50 TTB up front and a Dana 61 or Dana 70 in the rear. The front isn't worth squat, and I would only take the rear if it is a 70.
greenbomb 02-03-2009, 10:51 PM found a different guy out of okc..
has a d70-U
says it will have about same ground clearance as my ford 9"
AND
he said it should bolt right up but i may need to move my spring pads.
he said it came from an 84-86 f 350.. cant remember the exact year
are there going to be any surprises when i go to put this in the ol truck? or will it be pretty easy?
adam12 02-03-2009, 11:13 PM You will want to pitch the drum brakes and convert it to disks. Those drums are not light..

If it's from a dually it will need the spring pads moved, they are narrower. If it's from a regular pickup it should bolt up.
U-joint will be a different size. You'll need a conversion joint, drive line changed or new yoke for the D70U.
jam0o0 02-03-2009, 11:36 PM different driveshaft length will be required. don't pitch the drums if you want a parking brake. the pistons in the drums are way bigger than your stock brakes. so it's gunna brake funny until you get a Master cylinder that matches and front brakes that match. it doesn't have as much clearance as a 9 unless it's been messed with. still one of the best choices for a rear axle there is imo.
Diesel_Dirk 02-04-2009, 06:58 AM IIRC correctly dually axle spring perched are same width apart as SRW axles, as the rear frame and spring mounts are identical on SRW and Dually trucks. Its the axle housing itself that is wider so that the inner tire does not rub the spring.

Nope. On the very high gvw trucks, like F-450s they have the same spring spacing as Bronco/F150/F250/F350s but the F-350s with 8'-9' bed has a narrowed frame in the rear, just like a Highboy. It is 4" narrower than the standard pickup.
Here's a link to a thread with pics and dimensions of both I had for sale awhile back:
82F100SWB 02-04-2009, 10:34 AM A pickup dually has the normal spring spacing, and a wider axle, but, a Cab and Chassis truck(frame narrows behind the cab) has the narrower spring perches and the axle is about the same width as a standard pickup. I'm pretty sure the 450 D80 falls into that same category too.

Yeah, thats sounds right.
