pulled a 351 windsor out of a 95 e-250 van. motor sounded and ran fine although it did have a slight blue smoke upon start up and high revs. i plan on having the heads rebuilt. i will also put new rings on pistons and all new seals throughout. Do you think I will most likely eliminate this slight smoking? motor has 250k miles on it.

How was the crosshatch, and did you hone it ?

Edit: were the valve seal bad or you couldnt tell ?

At 250k it very likely needs a rebuild with an overbore. That block should be the "f4" block that can accept a factory hydraulic roller cam! If that's the case definitely get one and run it! Sounds like a good deal.

hone it or crosshatch, this is my first time breaking apart a motor and rebuilding it to say. havent had or performed any work yet on this thing. just getting opinions from people who know more than me. what do you mean by crosshatch and honing? yeah, i know your thinking "oh boy here we go"

cross hatch is what you would see in the cylinder bores in a low mileage engine. After 250,000 I doubt you would see anything except worn cylinder walls. Your local machine shop would be a good first stop.

I've heard that having heads rebuilt costs almost as much as brand new better flowing heads.

Also, the Scat 3.85" crank and 302 pistons costs just a little more than having the stock 3.5" crank turned and 351 pistons. (Search "393 stroker")

Just saying.

Do it right the first time. Buy a 460.

Welcome.. I used to run 302s and 351Ws.... Always trying everything i could think of to get a titty bit more power out of the dam things. Drove an 81F250 with a stock 460 and was amazed at how much more power it had over my tweaked small blocks. I bought a 460 and have never looked back. Trade your old 351 for an old 460 at the junk yard then spend your few bucks fixing up that BB. I promise you, you wont regret it.

what about size difference in these two. Also, fuel injection. does a 460 come factory with fuel injection? trying to keep this buggy TINY. under 3000lbs and small and agile. Gotta stick with gasoline, no propane for me or carbs.
