No weld, no spin for me so far. Someone mentioned a while back that leaf sprung apps are more likely to have trouble.

Yup, I spun mine about 15 degrees on a, "hell bent to climb at any cost, rock" on the Spirit World trail above Bass Lake. There was quite a bit of hopping going on, and a heavy rubber smoke filled the air, when I made the top.
I welded the axle tubes, and have never had the problem again, even though I have hammered it at least twice that hard, with the V8.
I would stitch weld the tubes as a precaution at least. Its a piece of cake to weld them, its a pain in the ass, to seperate them turn em, press em and weld em after they twist.

i don't think i've spun my tubes but i tore them length wise at the front of both spring pads , but of course this is in a full size bronco with a blown 351.

H8monday, so you welded it twisted when you got to the top of the hill? Did you have to drive on it much like that, anything get messed up? How exactly do you pull out an axle tube to reset it? Not that it makes a whole lot of difference because I replaced my 8.8 rear with a 10.25

Hey SOCALXJ, i m just now getting ready for the swap into my 86 cherokee. I did weld the tubes to the pumpkin, 3 stitch welds.. I don't think i should have a problem with my 3.4 GM and a 50:1 crawl ratio.... I just did it because those plug welds look aweful dinky... Well, i should have the swap done this weekend, just gotta go pick up some u-bolts and a brakeline... Anyonw know what size that breather thread is? I lost mine... No biggy, i can go find one somewhere surely.... Hugh

I just removed the twisted side spring pack and used a ready welder to stitch weld the tube where it had twisted, then welded a 15 degree wedge onto the perch of twisted side, so that I could bolt back the axle, without torquing the springs. I drove it like that for over a month, before I removed the axle and had a shop straighten it all out.

When i was into Mustangs, i spun 2 myself, and firends all spun theirs as well, IMO, you have HP or bigger then a 35 you MUST weld it

5,000 RPM drop the clutch launches all day. no tube spinning. I heard the same, but have not had mine do it. Knock on wood.

5,000rpm? C'mon. What exactly do you accomplish by doing this?
