: Wheel width for 35x15.5 SX's

Silly question:
I just bought a 84 4Runner with 35x15.5 R15 Swamper SX's. I'm thinking about doing some tire/wheel swapping and I was wondering how wide the rims would most likely be. As far as I can see there is no stamped width anywhere on the black steels it has.

They look pretty pinched in, so I'm guessing 10?....

I'm hoping to put the swampers on beadlocks and get some street slicks on the original wheels, but the streets would only be 35x12.50. How wide a rim can you run those on?

Call 4wheel parts, National tire&wheel, or tyres international. They will give you the specs.:D

I ran mine on 8", they stay on the rim better. If you are running beadlocks 10" is what is recommended.

I run that size in a TSL with a 10" rim. I have had the pressure down to 10lbs on the rocks without loosing a bead!

Did you like yours on the 8"? I've considered the 35x15.50 SX, but don't want to buy new wheels (I've got 8" beadlocks). What would you say are the pro and cons?

Pro's - you'd never hit your rim on a rock with that mondo bulge :D

Like Brector said, it protects your wheels better and I feel it gives you a better footprint when aired down. I think it keeps the tire flatter on the ground. Also, a tire on a narrower rim will be taller at the same air pressure than a tire on a wider rim.
I ran 3.5 lbs in the front and 2.5 lbs in the rear on this rig and never had a tire come off bead and I had it in some pretty nasty situations before where I thought it would poke a hole in the sidewall.
I have 44" swampers now and I run them on 10" rims.

Wow, most of the guys around here run the 44's on 12" and they seem to have a large bulge! I guess you don't have any problems seating the bead either.. :)

Thanks... So much for using that excuse not to go 35's.. ;)

They're not that bad and they're 41" tall with 5 lbs of air.

we just mounted some 44" Tsl's on hummer wheels (10") and i think they look great not nearly as much buldge as i thought there would be.

I run my 35x15.5 SX's on 10" rims at 5 psi and still haven't lost a bead. Wheel has been well protected too, I've only scuffed them a few times.

Redrum, I thought Hummer rims were 8"

I also run my 35x15.5 sx's on 10's. I tried them for a while on 8's on my old rig but went to 10's to try to get rid of the frame/spring rub. It helped a little. I had 3" bs on the 8's and 4" on the 10's, but gained 1/2" inside clearance. I've run mine as low as 5 psi and was spinning the wheel inside the tire, without loosing a bead. The tire definately had better traction on the rock than the wheel had on the bead. I also noticed the tires like to burp a lot at low pressure on the 10's when they're pinched.

I run my 35x15.50x15 SX's on 12" Alcoa wheels at 10-12psi. I have not had a problem, but I am going to beadlock my wheels so I can run a lower psi.

My next set of wheels will be 10" wheels.
