Why would towing my 86 Bronco on all 4s ruin the autotranny? What if I put the transfer case in neutral?

I pulled a Ramcharger from Pasco Wa to Perryton Tx with a tow bar with the T-case in neutral with no damage.. It is still in use today..

lala - you're supposed to put the tranny in Park and the t-case in neutral to flat tow. That being said, some t-cases can't be flat towed for extended distances because they don't get lubricated properly in neutral. I and many of the guys in my club have flat towed Wranglers all over the place, but I believe that's because the oil pump is driven off the output shaft. Like Jerk said, disconnect the d-shaft. That way nothing turns and you can tow it forever.

I do believe that Ramcharger and a Bronco have different t-cases.
Just because you flat towed yours doesn't mean he can flat tow his.

IMO, disconnect the rear driveshaft and you're safe.

I believe that year of bronco has an oil pump in the T-case. I know I've been inside an 88 tcase and it had a pump. If so, you can tow with t-case in neutral, tranny in park all you want. If you're not sure, just pull the rear driveshaft.

Hey thanx for the great info. I guess the safest way is to pull the drive shaft. Or in a pinch tranny in park tx case in neutral. Thanx again.
