I got a chev 350 for my tow rig. It had a bent dipstick tube when I got it home and installed. ooops? Anyways so I remove it and look for a new dipstick. Well there are aparently several lengths of tube and dipstick out there.. I've never researched this end of it :) Anyways so I go buy one of those chrome POS cuz it's "universal". Well the very end is ticking the crank. Thats not good. So I pull the dipstick and try and remove the tube and it brakes off right flush with the block. Well I've tryed to get a grip and pull it out. I have now dropped the oil pan (another 1.5hour rant!!) and tried to spank it out that way with a screwdriver. No way thats working. I finally got the drill and drilled it out. Had to remove the power brake booster and work around corners. What a fawkin PITA
Has anyone else had this joy? Everyone I talk to has not had this kind of luck.
Here though EVERY thing happens to SOMEONE!!

I've also been there and done that. self tapping screw and vicegrips.

for the replacement just get a dipstick tube at the dealer. on my amc v8 it was around 10 bucks. gotta be at least that cheap for a chevy

I'm in the same situation. I am having a hard time trying to find a way to make it seal. What besides jb weld is there?

Whats wrong with JB Weld? It worked great for me.

Then I made a bracket to hold the dipstick in place, so it wouldnt wear out again or pop out.

Clean it out good and use loctite #609 retaining compound it sets up quick and can still be removed if needed.

hell I had to beat mine into the block (wonder why it broke). Even broke it didn't spew oil......
I ended up drilling the thing out and hav epoxy to hold the new steel one in. Wonder if the block will get too hot though. If not I can use engine sylicone....
Glad to hear I'm not alone
