I'm sure its been discussed before but I'm having no luck finding it.
Thinking about buying a front D44(driver drop) and a rear D44 that came off of an 83 Cherokee to replace my 30/35 on a 04 TJ. I know I would need to weld brackets to the axles and that they are full width(good for me). Is this info correct and can you think of anything else that would need to be done?
I dont want tires larger that 35", plan on 4.56 gearing and Aussie or Lockright lockers front and rear. Easy on the gas, nothing extreme.
Thanks for the help.

think they are in the 61" width area so not full width.
i have one in the front of my TJ, and i had to shorten my driveshaft a c-hair.
get a full bracket kit to make your life easyer.
and i cant remember if the yokes at 1310 to match your driveshaft ujoints.

all i can think of right now. hope any of this helps.

Anybody for sure that the 83 cherokee did have D44 front and rear? I hear some had AMC 20's.

You do not want the front axle. The 82-84 front waggy D44 had a vacuum disconnect in the pumpkin. You want a front waggy axle from an 80-81 or 85-92. The rear axle on the 80-85 waggy is an AMC 20 but it is supposed to be a lot stronger than the CJ AMC 20's. The 86-91 waggys had dana 44 rears.

The specs I quoted were for a grand wagoneer. I just realized you said Cherokee. The 83 Cherokee Chief had a front 65" WMS to WMS dana 44 but I don't know what side drop it was. The rear axle is 62" wide but I don't have any other reference in my notes about the rear.
