: stupid online ordering question

I plan on ordering some lowers from essential arms within the next few days. I have never ordered a firearm/receiver online before, so I need to figure out what I need. Do I need to contact my ffl and get a copy of his license before the order, or does the ffl send it in? Does that need to be done before I place my order, or after? Basically, I'm a noob at this kind of stuff.

Thanks for your help.

First the order is placed and you pay, like anything else. You then contact your FLL and they mail/fax/email-PDF their info directly to the dealer you bought from. Once they have the info, the dealer will prepare & ship your gunwidgets.

They can ONLY ship to the address on his FFL cert. He will call you when your item arrives. You go over there, and he'll do the required paperwork for your state, the 4473, and you'll leave with your gunwidgets once you pay him his fee. Basically, it's the same paperwork as if you walked into a gun store. You're just paying for the background check at the time, since the item was prepaid.

Oh, and don't let him charge you sales tax unless he's *SUPPOSED* to charge you sales tax. Don't beleive that's the case up there. ;)

Have your license holder fax a copy of his FFL to whoever is selling them. They ship to him, you fill out a 4473 and all that stuff then you go home with your new metal chunks.

Will EA accept Faxed FFLs?

If so call your local FFL and ask they to fax a copy to EA

EA will send a copy of their FFL to your local FFL with your receivers.

Yes they will accept faxes and they prefer to have it before the order. YMMV

You might want to call enterprise and see if they already have your FFL on file.

If they've already got a copy of his FFL on file from another purchaser (Not entirely unlikely, given the volume of internet business that EE does), then that saves some time. You can order, they can ship directly to your FFL, and you just need to give the FFL the heads up to be on the lookout for your stuff.

When you call Essential Arms, they will ask you who your FFL is and his city. They will look to see if they already have it. If not, they put a note on your order saying it is pending FFL. Then you have your FFL fax his license to them. Your order does not go into the queue until they have the license. Right now the order to ship time is about 3 weeks depending on which lower you order. Also, be prepared to spend a lot of time redialing the number to get through. The last time I called it took about 75 dials over a week to get a live person. This sucks because usually it goes straight to voice mail (the box is always full) so you get charged for the call anyway. I used my cell phone that has free long distance but it still used a bunch of minutes. When you finally get through they are real nice people with the best deal going. I got the hard anodized which is $100 plus 3% for credit card and $16 for shipping. Tough coat lowers are $5 more.

Fawk, I'm not renting a car, I'm buying a rifle:blackflipoff2:.

Thanks for the advice. I think I know what ffl I'm going to use, but I've never done buisness with him before. I'm going to talk to him before I place my order. I have a few questions to ask him anyways.

Good idea. Some of them don't like dealing with black rifles so you want to know up front. Also it's nice to meet them and establish a working relationship and get the fees and procedures nailed down. In my case the guy I was going to use decided to get out of the transfer business after I had ordered. Left me scrambling for an alternate. I understand his reasons, but it made for an interesting week. Good luck.

I have to give some props to Essential Arms. When I last talked to them on Feb 3, they said my lower would ship in 10-15 days. I was fine with that since I've been waiting on a Doublestar for 3 months now. Much to my surprise, the lower showed up at the FFL yesterday. They are a pain to get hold of, but top-notch service once you get through.

Yep, top notch product too (for the price)!
