: upgraded axles yukon or
ButtNuttN8 02-06-2009, 08:35 AM I understand the need to upgrade the axles even 1 ton in mud racing. That being said im goin through a SAS on my 79 f-150 stepside to start mud racing and compeating. I got dana 60 front and sterling 10.25 rear
I want bomb proof so i dont have to break parts and be down soo which axles should i upgrade to iv been looking and narrowed it down to either
yukon 4340 chromoly 35 splines inner outters
or
superiors chromoly 35 splines inners outters
and the use of CTM u joints or superjoints
anybody have any first hand comments for either of these or would like to point me in a different direction i just dont want to dump 3k into the wroung direction so please shead some light thanks
this is strictly for mud racing no onroad what so ever thanks
BigDusty 02-06-2009, 11:58 AM Definitely CTMs are a must for bullet proof. And superior i believe for shafts unless you wanna do CTM shafts as well...

Ayup. Superiors wait time brings the epic suck but I've heard tons of failures/complaints with Yukons. I wheel like a retarded mongloid chimp on meth and my Superiors have held up fine.

Seeing Pro go through the wait for superiors, I chose to go with Yukons, I also went with the Longfield 300M superjoint, (cause they were new & I wanted to try them)
This was in my 49 ford with the blown injected engine (approx 1500 hp) & had no troubles, I don't quite drive like a retarded mongloid chimp on meth, but most of the time it was like a Kenmoor refrigerator, when the door closed the light went out.
I think you'll be fine either way.
Proeliator 02-08-2009, 10:10 PM I don't quite drive like a retarded mongloid chimp on meth,
You may drive smarter that me, but those were also in an application putting out twice the hp that my truck does. I had forgotten that you used Yukons. The fact they lived in that rig is actually a pretty good testimonial.
KennyTJ 02-08-2009, 10:14 PM Didn't Yukon buy Warn's axle division?

Whoa, I deffinately wasn't claiming that, I was more implying different veriations of retardedness, & I mean that in the most unsarcastic way possible :D

Proeliator 02-09-2009, 01:18 PM No personal experience, but I've heard only good about Moser.
