X2 You can do alot with the saginaw and there are alot of donors to chose from, I just drilled and tapped the holes for the hydro assist on mine. They are cheap to, PBB has a lot of info on drilling and taping for hydro. I dont know alot about the other that may be out there maybe some of the other guys on here can give more info on other that may be just as good.

If you're planning to run 47's, you may want to consider going full hydro. Both the saggy and toyota box(es) are easily tapped for hydo assist, and will handle 38.5 SX's. However the ram you use for hydro assist most likely will not be beefy enough for full on hydro. It's one of those pay now or pay again later things. It's your build.

In all honesty you get what you pay for, and I would Chk out PSC. They make Boxs tapped, HD, reg. Non-tapped, etc etc. and they have fuckin GREAT service. just my 2cents

Where is your front axle with regards to your grill? Gets tricky to get it placed in a willys with the front axle pushed forward, as I assume you'd have when running that size of tire.

If you are staying with mechanical steering, then I'd go with an Astro van steering box, with hydro assist with a 2" ram.

Ideally, you'd go with a 2.5" ram with full hydro. Thats a lot of tire to move.

On my Willys CJ3b, (build in process) I'm going with 37" iroks, 99" WB, front axle centerline is only about 3" behind the axle of the grille. I'm likely going with the Astro box/HA.

I have a few toyota boxes, but its pushed almost up to the bumper to get where it needs to be for the pitman arm to be in the right place. They stick up above the frame a lot, it'd be really ugly up there.

sorry to hijack, but do you have a build thread. My steering box is leaking a little and I am thinking about going the astro box/HA to bump out the front axle.

Nothing at all on my rig will be stock in any way,I really don't care if a steering box sticks out at all. As long as it looks clean. The frame is stretched big time 149" and 31 1/2 frame center. 115" WB.. I had it mocked up with a wood frame before I stated cutting up the metal.............

How close do your tires come to the frame at full lock?

I just mention the toyota box not looking nice because it would be sticking up probably 4-6" above the frame rails, next to where your winch wants to be. If you have hydro lines coming from it (and for 47s, I hope to hell you have hydro assist), it would look even worse. But not sure how much you are stretching your front clip. It might end up needing to be hacked through the grill. Especially with the 31.5" centers on the rails, an astro box would probably be easy to fit and a lot cleaner. I believe they are stronger as well, power wise.

You may find that your tires would hit the steering box if you use a standard toy IFS box as it sticks out a couple inches from the frame rail. With the 47s, they might be contacting forward of it, though.

I have a therad on another site, I will transfer it here when I get a bit more done. But I don't have the steering done yet, so nothing to show. I'm presently building a new front axle housing, once thats done and the 3 link is buttoned up, I'll start the thread here.

I am stretching the front clip a lot, maybe 10"...? or so... I will need to fab a new hood...
