I've got a Rem 700 ADL in .243, looking to rebarrel/stock it for the lil lady. She's pretty fond of my .308's, so that's where I was heading....any suggestions as to the barrel length/girth/brand? This will mainly be a whitetail gun, approx. 300yd max shooting, with factory ammo.

Many thanks. :p

sounds like you've got a pretty competent shooter already. She'll like the .243 as it doesn't kick very hard. It' more than capable at taking deer at those distances. The .308 is just a necked up .243. Use what you've got, save your money for good glass and call it good.

Ah, I should have mentioned, this is a rifle I picked up at a pawn shop about a year ago for $200, it's pretty beat up, barrel and stock are both dinged up, but the action was in good shape, and I already had a Timney laying around the workbench for it. I've never rebarreled a rifle with the purpose of making a general, all purpose gun.

Thanks for the replies anyway guys. Nice .284 by the way, .300.
