The tranny in my 91 F-150 let go. It was an E4OD. I have a 93 Bronco with a 302 and 5-speed. The Bronco has everything. What would be needed to do a tranny swap. Putting the manual into the F-150? Will i need to get a new flywheel or will the one off the 302 work? I know i will need to had the drive shafts redone. Was just checking to see if there were any special parts i would need.

Thanks in advance.

my friend has a 351w that had a c6 and he swamped in a borgwarner t18 from a truck with a 302 and he didnt have to switch the flywheel or anything it more or less just bolted up since it was the small block bell housing and everything

you will have to remove the auto flex plate and install a manual tranny flywheel. the problem you will have with removing the e40d is that the trucks computer will see the tranny has failed because the computer isn't seeing the electronic signal the tranny sends to the PC. this will cause the engine to go in limp mode and will suck. you will need the trucks PC flashed and the auto trans codes removed. also the neutral start safety switch will need to be rigged so the truck will crank.

351w flywheel will be 28 oz balance, same as older 302, the later 302(early eighties and up)is a 50 oz balance, you will need a new flywheel.

If he has the bronco with everything can he not just use the stick shift ecm out of it? Is the harness different?

harness is different. doesnt have the clutch safely switch. ecm is different also. its for a 5.0, not a 5.8, which will mess up his fuel, timing and anything else. if he could find some one to flash his ecm, taking out the tranny code all together, he should be fine.

when installing the manual flywheel, be sure to re-use the manual flywheel bolts to the back of the crank of the 351. The auto flywheel bolts will appear to work but are too short and will strip out when tightening

yes. manual bolts are longer. and that new of motors will need different flywheels. also of course is the problem of swapping the pedals. easier if just a slave cluth release setup. if it's got the z bar manual clutch relaease you will need to swapp all those parts as well. you could just get a replacement ecm from a manual tranny 5.8 truck and put that in and wire in the nuetral safety from your broncos clutch pedal into the neutral safety wires from the auto shifter from your truck and it will start. the neutral safety on your truck will be connected to a small lever behind your brake booster in the engine compartment.
