A friend of mine has a 79 Scout with a factory limited slip (trak-lok?)in the d-44 rear, it doesn't work anymore and I was wondering would it be worth rebuilding (assuming that you could) or should we try and find a normal carrier and put a mini spool in it? He just bought the scout and doesn't have a whole lot of cash to spend on it. thanks

I ran my trac-loc welded before I swapped axles. Even though it was in good working shape, it still let go more than I wanted so we welded it up. It held up fine welded. It now resides under another guys daily driver jeep.

Or you can go to Randy's Ring and Pinion and get a rebuild kit for 50 bones. I took my carrier to the local axle/standard tranny mechanic and he swapped out the old clutch packs for 20 bucks. You can do it youself but it is a pain the first time.

Or you can do what these sages are talking about and "Lincon lock" it, i.e weld the falker up. that would be the 10$ cure and provide you with the poor man's spool.

depends on what you want. if it is for trail only, weld it. If it is a daily driver and/or he needs to tow, I'd rebuild the TrackLock (aka TrashLock)

Or you could put in a no slip. It is the samr thing as a Lok Right except it fits in a limited slip carrier

Don't waste your $ rebuilding a Trac loc. There the lowest form of limited grip and not worth the trouble or the $. Weld it or mini spool it.

Yeah, CJ listen to these guys just what you need another LS that won't cut the mustard. If you want a limited slip run a power loc, you want a locker in the rear run a Detroit. You want full time traction, good street manners run a spool or weld it. Don't run a lunch box locker in the rear, they tend to not hold up well, and have more quarks then a full detroit.

BTW this crap about spools are for trail only rigs is BS, run one on the street you'll love it, and your rig will track straight down the road. Then only time I notice the welded rear is under 5 MPH.

And Jack-off, your persistent comments about sages, sheeple, followers what ever shows your lack of wheeling experience. Yeah, I'm like all the others because I run swampers and a welded rear

Joe he just spews the old BB crap. I don't know why we are even discussing a rear 44! They have no place on a Heavy ass SII

Got pics of Amanda's rear ;) I took a look at Mark's before he pulled it, dimpled from the inside out. I was surprised it held up on the trip home. I told Mark it was your fault, I know I took it easy on the way out :flipoff2: We were limping all but the EB out.

It's free broke sheet. Bob should charge you a fee by forcing you to replace the Trash Lock that you could rebuild for $50.00
