My '86 ranger is having more gauge issues. the fuel and temp gauge arent working. but its not constant, it goes away periodically and today it started doing it again, and its not goin away. ive heard that the connectors behind the gauges could be bad but wouldnt that be like a perminently not working thing? so any recommendations as to what to do here? i know its not just a sending unit and a temp sensor, it has to be something more like a ground wire or connectors somewhere..

thanks in advance.

the connectors in the back in the cluster can get a bad connection over time. between humidity and vibration it happens. and a bad connection can cause intermittent failure of the gauges. it's not a broken connection, which would be permanent. just a bad one. sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. it just happens. try pulling your cluster and cleaning the termenals and reinstalling. that'll probably take care of it.
