OK, I'm usually good at searching but this part has zero part numbers on it and I've been looking for what it is for the last 2 hours with no luck.
My guess is that its some sort of module. It was located under the dash just behind the ash tray in a 1992 F150, 4x4, auto, with 5.8L. The wide plug has all the wires going into the engine compartment. The smaller plug on the right has some wires that go to the ignition, engine compartment, and the fuse box. I don't have wiring diagrams or fuse box diagram, so I can't check those.
Anyone have any idea what it is? The inside looks like it has a large circuit board that the plugs connect to. I'm taking this harness and cleaning it up for use in my buggy and don't want to eliminate this if it is needed.
I'd be up for a chassis and engine wiring diagram or a fuse box diagram and tracing everything myself.
Thanks in advance.

just a wild guess but, maybe it could have something to do with the heat control system? do you have any pics of it?

I was mistaken on the location. After sleeping on it and looking back at the dash, it was locate just to the right of the instrument cluster, not back behind the ash tray.
I have identified the ABS module and the door chime module, so it is not either one of those
After looking at the diagram, it may be the electronic shift control, but I question it as the diagram's drawing of the part is similar in size, but different shaped and looks like not as many wires connecting it.

gonna sound strange. but if it was an auto tranny can you trace the wires? check and make sure it doesn't have going to the od on off switch. my 91 250 has a lead going from the od button on dash to a box behind instrument cluster like you mention then to fuse panel and out to engine compartment and down to tranny. may not be it. but it might. my 95 f150 is way different, but my 91 250 has that box the od switch leads into. might possibly be it. just not completely certain. sorry if it doesn't help much

Get the PN off of it, and google it. If that doesn't work, go to a internet ford parts wholesaler, and put the PN in their search field.

there are not any part numbers on it at all. Only thing written on it is the Ford emblem...

it was a OD auto trans. It may have to do with that. harnesses, engine, and trans are all out of the truck, so its difficult to trace the wires.
