im working on my uncles f150. it needs a new coulmn but he swears that there is a few from 79 that wont work in the truck.but he doesnt recall why. my guess is wiring. anyone have any info on this i dont see what wiring would change.maybe for cruies(if they even had it in the trucks of 79).so if anyone could tell me if they changed anything in the coulmns from 78-79 that would be great. from all my searchs i found the they are the same from 2wd to 4wd beside the yoke(4wd) or rag joint(2wd).so if anyone could tell me if the wiring is the same i would thank you.

2wd & 4wd are different,
The 2wd has a fixed flange at the end of the steering shaft (outside the fire wall)
The 4wd shaft has splines on it,
They did have cruise in the late 70's trucks, so that couldd be a factor, another thing is the blinker switch, I have seen some that have a different plug (possibly related to the cruise)

Also the trim piece a the dash can be one of two differnt style, but this is mostly differing between the earlier trucks (73-77) & later (78-79)

ok so there are diffrent plugs. but i should be good as long as i find one with out curise(his doesnt have it) i guess i should get under the dash and look at the plug just to be safe.

Worst case scenerio, remove the origonal blinker switch & plug & install it in the new column.

a 77 f-150 colum fit perfict it my 79 f-150. the 77 is all steel instead of haveing that plastic crap on it

As skipped link said, the 2X4 and 4X4 are totally different from each other. Other than that i myself have never had a problem swapping them around. Always remember, Ford always did weird shit through the years.
