so I got a 78 Chev HD 44 8 lug pattern and a Rear FF Dana 60 out of a mid 70s ford.

The 44 has larger wheel stud then the 60 (in diameter)

Can I change them to be the same or it cant be changed and its going to be a PITA

If the fronts are 9/16 these can be used on the D60 rear: P/N# 6413162. The D60 should be a 1/2, no drilling, BUT this was on a rear DISC BRAKE conversion, shouldnt matter tho.

Yes, we also did a stud upgrade to 9/16 on my 93 Dodge front Dana 60 axle in the 4Runner to match the 9/16 studs in my 14-bolt rear FF axle. I don't have the part number, but for my setup I just went to Napa with a set of calipers, one of the studs I'd hammered out of the Dana 60 rotors and we started matching up knurl dimensions in a great book they had with all the specs of available studs. It's been quite some time, but for my setup I believe the ones that just hammered right in (I believe they were .002" off of my used stud dimensions) were ones made for a 1983 K30 Chevy. Hope that helps you or someone else out there.

I'm converting to the same setup on my bronco and was wondering about the different stud sizes..... If I chose not to convert my 60 to the larger studs, would I actually need different wheels front and rear?? That wouldn't be good. I do plan on converting though.

It's not different wheels, just different lug nut sizes. Although Ford rims will fit on Chevy 8 lug, but Chevy rims won't fit on Ford 8 lug. It's the inside diameter of the rim, but with aftermarkets, they all have the larger ID.

Easy

Good deal, I can live with different size lug nuts front and rear......especially with 8 per! Thanks!

I wasn't planning swapping the studs on the 60 until I was ready to do the disc conversion.

I do have another question though...

I would like to run a 1" spacer on the front to match the 60 width, but the studs aren't long enough. Anyone know of a source for longer studs, or do I need one of those spacers that bolts to the hub, then the wheel bolts to the spacer. Not crazy about that idea, and I figure the longer studs shouldn't be a concern with an 8 lug and a light truck.

All I can say is you should be able to find them down at napa. Drag racers run some seriously long studs on their 60's for their thick ass mag rims.

Easy

Just a quick link to what I've heard is a good source for wheel spacers in case it might help.

I just looked up a 1" 8 lug spacer, and they want $65 ea !!!

I think I'll have to pass on that one. Thanks anyway.
