: roll cage specs?
james west 08-24-2002, 08:30 AM in building my (first) scout, a 79 II, it has occured to me there is no decent aftermarket solution for a roll cage
has anyone ever been so decent as to provide a drawing of a well tested (well rolled) cage
you see the thing is trial and error cost time and money...and i was wondering if there was a design that most of you were going with
thanks
james

RustoleumWhite 08-24-2002, 08:48 AM Smitty built Rear or Scout vendor rear "show bar" (4-point cage), add a Smittybuilt SC88 front cage kit, and you got the start of a decent cage.
Make sure the floor mounts are in decent shape were you bolt the cage, and you may want to get some more tube to build some extra bracing and/or seat mounts etc...
Almost no one makes a cage "kit" for a Scout II, best thing IMO is to have one custom built, then you get it how you want it.
Search the General board for cage information, and you will learn allot about cage design and layout. There is no "one" way to do it, depends on how you use your truck, and what features you need.
best cage design IMO is the one you don't use :flipoff2:
james west 08-24-2002, 09:00 AM thanks...my buddy matt (independent4x) has the technology to build my cage (in exhange for a few *dozen* cold ones)...i just have to provide materials
i was looking for a blueprint i guess...but your right, i won't be happy unless the design is all mine
thanks again,
james
Jacob 08-24-2002, 03:55 PM that was a pretty damn informative write up
now i want a bender......too bad i dont have any money
Kentrol also makes a rear four point cage that is decent. Add the Smittybuilt front cage kit and you have a six point cage.

Well I guess that rules my Scout II Cage kits out... If you want a STEEL on one just let me know...I've got a couple in stock and wouldn't mind getting rid of a few...You can see the kits at http://www.dandcextreme.com/cage/siikit.html ~ we also have ones that are shorter (stock style) and longer (family style).
Oh, if you're looking into a strong enough cage to withstand a roll-over or two ~ you better get one that is made of DOM...its the safest bet....besides common sense :p
jdjanda 08-25-2002, 12:00 AM I've got the dim's that we used on the 6 point cages we bent up from 2" tube. The front bar still allows you to roll the window down, but you do have to remore the light switch, move the e-brake over, and cut a tad off the glove box. I'll post up the info later if you are interested. Should also fit under the top, but it will be difficult to install the trim with the cage.

james west 08-25-2002, 08:30 AM hey, that'd be great
its a trail rig, and chances are it will never see a top again
and BTW...the start of the SOA begins today!
plans involve lift shackles, stock springs (ahh...budgets), new bushings and stuff, drop pitman arm, hiem joint steering, bla bla bla...hoping to clear 36s after some sawzall action
next week: driveshafts
sorry to rant

search this board on pitman arms, forget the droped arm, go for a waggy or dodge arm.
why heim's?? propper TRE's are roughtly the same price, and legal (unlike heims in some states)
personal preferance of course.
james west 08-25-2002, 09:50 AM oops...all the parts are in my living room and ready to go...
heims are what everyone is running here in VA, and i find them easier to work with
thanks for the lookout, maybe i'll be swappimg parts out later...these rigs are never complete as you all know
