Why do TJ tube fenders not fit on a YJ?

Reason I ask is I am swapping in a TJ grill on my YJ and I want to get some tube fenders. I do not have access to a welder to make my own, but I could get a DIY kit and have a friend weld them. Anywho, where do the TJ fenders not line up? If they do not line up with a YJ grill, then I should be able to get TJ fenders after installing the TJ grill, no?

Sorry for the stupid post but I have not seen tube fenders in person, nor have I seen a TJ fender up close.

They don't fit because they are totally different. They are close but not quite a straight bolt on. If you get a TJ grill then the tube fenders should bolt on, but this is pending the grill location on a TJ and YJ are the same. TJ grills and hoods have lower profiles. The YJ hood isn;t gonna fit really well either so you should probably go track down a TJ hood as well. Theres a guy who did a similar swap here in the forum, I'm sure if you search for it you can find it.

Yeah I did find that, that's really where I got the idea. (thanks geberhard) The hood is going to be close enough for me as far as the grill goes, but about the fenders... Your saying that with the tj grill, depending on it's location, which I am going to have to setup anyway, that the TJ tube fenders should work?

Yep TJ parts should bolt to other TJ parts:laughing:. I'm just not sure if TJ fenders are longer or shorter then YJ fenders which of coarse would mess up the grill mount. But seeing as how well TJ flares fit on a YJ, and the fact that even a TJ hood will grossly bolt up, I would give it the benefit of the doubt that it shouldn't be a problem. You can make anything work, worse case scenario you have to move a mount or two or modify the fenders a smidge. No big deal.
