I want a new shifter for my C4. right now i have a B&M that i hate. It's the one where you have to pull a T-shaped handle up to get it out of park, then once in drive you knock it down through the gears. I have a lot of problems finding the right gear with it, and overall it's just a PITA. What do you all use? any recommendations? here's a pic of the shifter i have

This may not be real relevant, but I had the same shifter and luckily hated it enough that it never got put in the truck. I ended up going to a junkyard and getting a shifter out of a Grand Am for my turbo 400. Got the whole thing for $20 and all I had to do was change the bracket on the tranny.
I know yours is a Ford, so what about a Mustang shifter or something.
By the way, if anyone want my shifter you can have it.

I asked the same question about a year ago. I was told the art Carr shifter was the one to get:

The bastards were out of stock and couldn't give me a ship date for my 727 shifter. I bought a SCS Turbo Action shifter. It's a nice unit!

The Turbo Action and the Art Carr seem to be the made in the same shop.

I was once told Winters makes the Art Carr shifter, might want to check them out Winters Shifters (http://www.wintersperformance.com/shifters.htm)

ya i have that POS B&M shifter...it was cheap so i got it. i took the sucker apart and took out that t handle. the only thing i dont like is that some a hole that is with me could whack it into park or reverse.

Lokar....simple and easy to install, nice feedback and very much like OEM....had the mega and pro from B & M and hated both
One option, if you don't mind a little fabricating is to take one of those cheap universal shifters and cut the handle off(low on the base where it will be covered by the boot) and weld on an extension. I welded a rod that pretty much duplicated the original 4spd stick shifter. That way if your shifter is mounted down on the tranny hump, you dont have to lean down to shift.
the only lockout is for park. The shifter easily shifts from gear to gear...Of course that can be a problem too if you're not used to it.

I agree--Lokar if you want a directly shifted unit and have space to mount it. Art Carr or similar if you need a cable operated shifter.

I run the one pictured in the top of the thread and swear by it... perhaps it's not adjusted properly, or perhaps the shifter's smarter than you are. I think it's awesome, but on the other hand I run a fully manual 400, so I kinda KNOW what gear it's in. Cheap, you don't need a degree in engineering to install it, and it's been trouble free...
