I need to have my longside axle shortened 3" and resplined, its 33.12" now. Foothill offroad said it can't be done. Someone told me its possible as long as you remove at least 3". Whats up?

The neck-down portion of the front shaft is the limiting factor. You could always get a longer shaft to narrow, if thats the problem

I say BS. I had mine done by Moser, $50 plus $10 shipping... And mine was minus 3" also. Less than 3" would include the necked down portion....FWIW

get ctms and warns or get used to changing out lots of shafts. It will realy suck if every time you brake it you have to buy a shaft and have it shortend. When I cut my axle down I found a factory lanth shaft to use so i didnt have to mess with custom cut shafts. And when I got the funds to do the warns I could get stock sizes.

Yeah, what Randy said...
I am about to have a D44 housing cut down.....I will eliminate the Chev longside shaft and go to a Waggy long side shaft....
finally getting somewhere with this stuff......

You could always go to a Chevy longside which is 36.12 and have it shortened.

Thanks for the help, I don't want to put 1k into warns and ctms. I'm pretty easy on axles. No broken axles yet..:D

Yes, you can take off three inches of the Dana 44 axle shaft while having full splines. I had 2.75" taken off and the very end of my splines are a little bit scant. If Foothill won't do it have someone else do it, its not brain surgery! Dutchman, up here in Portland, does a pair for $80 or one shaft for $55.
