: Dana 60 Rear Coil Spring Ideas

I'm in the process of throwing D60s under a 2000 TJ. I'm streching the rear and toyin with the idea of using a set of TJ front coil springs on the rear. (I know, should be doing coil overs but that ain't till next years budget). Has anyone done this? Any suggestions on spring rates? The good, bad and ugly of using this idea for a year? Any threads out there that already covered this? (I looked and but didn't find much).

Thanks

Duke

I would think in a D60 swap, the coil springs would be one of the least expensive items...

Don't you have to rebuild those 60's, throw some gears, a locker etc in them? Convert to discs? New 1350 or 1410 series driveshafts? New control arms for the stretch, etc etc

What does a set of RE coils cost? $100 used tops?

I'm in the middle of stretching mine. Coilover's were out of the budget, so I'm using rear TJ coils. The 4.5" RE coils I have been running are too tall now with the new back half, so I'm going to go with 3". I'm running a 14 bolt rear. Just go with rear TJ coils, don't mess with front springs.

Your not going to use the upper coil spring retainers on the rear?

i had a skyjacker 4" lift kit and am just notching the frame and pushing the coil bucket back 6" and reusing the springs that came with the kit. i think if you call keystone you can order a set of springs. just search for a set of matching springs front and rear.

i run a set of 4in rear currie springs in the rear. the axle is moved back 8in and with 42's it is still alittle to much lift.

Nope. My plan is to use the "boat roller" method to make the upper spring retainer. This allows the spring to drop a couple inches before it goes into tension. I'm just not to that point yet. Plus the factor had no upper spring retainer....

That's interesting, I've never heard of that. I take it you use an actual boat roller mounted on the end of the bumpstop? Do you have any pic's or links of someone using these?

i used XJ stock front springs. i didn't limit them so i could get plenty of travel and they self align them self with the top mounts. very simple, cheap and works great.

I don't have any pics. But you are right, purchase a cheap boat roller for a boat trailer and cut it in half. The cone shape acts as a spring retainer.

I actually didn't run any top retainers previously (only bottom), and with limit straps and I didn't have any issues.

Im running stock front v-8 zj springs. Seam soft. I dont have my shocks on yet and have not test run it. Seems to give right around 4in of lift.

I stretched the rear approx 6" and noched the frame to fit xj coils for now, if I need more lift the v-8 Zj coils will be my next step up. I decieded to use the smaller front springs because I am running a narrowed front 60 and a C&C 14b with H2 rims so there isn't alot of spare room back there. Pics and more info in my sig.

Everything adds up and I have a set of 4" TJ front coils laying around and I thought why not use them, even if I have to cut them down a bit. Besides I was going to junk this set up next winter for coil overs.
