Friend of mine has a Miller Auto Arc QuickCut 2000 Plasma Cutter (115volt) small jobby.

Uses it mostly on sheet metal and 1/4" or less stuff. He say's that sometimes it wont cut at all, and other times it works fine.

Any idea's? I think it might be something loose somewhere. Dad's bringing it to the shop tonight so we can try it and see, figured I'd search around on here, and ask if i couldnt find anything, which I didnt, Google didnt even bring up a listing for this machine.

Auto Arc is to Miller like Blue Point is to Snap On

They are made by Miller if I was at work I might be able to get a service manual.

With Plasmas I can`t keep up with them all I am curious as to what the unit is doing or not.

Is it the user doing something wrong. Is it an air problem .

Tell us what it does and go from there,

Need more information than "it won't cut"...

Arc? Air? What does it do and what doesn't it do?

Ok, hopefully I can get back to the shop soon, and try it. Looked at the tip and such this morning, the owner knows NOTHING about them, and I think that has alot to do with the whole thing. We're going to try it, and then I'll post back.

Not replacing consumables is the most common issue why these don`t work.

next to air problems:homer:

Here is a link to the owners manual. No technical manual for that machine.
Go to the troubleshooting section and start there.

We had some problems with our plasma cutter (unknown brand, but the guy stood behind them) and after receiving another one he had us mess with the gapping on something on the inside, ever since we messed with that it has been problem free. My explanation sucks as well - but we had the same issue, something in there is distance sensitive.

Yota kid,
Set your air at 60psi for that miller, Make sure your commpresor can sustain 90psi at 5cfm. Even though most commpresores will go to 150psi the cfm is the important one.
Cut off a piece of your mig wire, (usually .035). Use that as a guage for the tip. If the hole in the tip looks .050 or bigger thats bad.
On some of those miller we also noticed that the fan would draw to much from the power supply and kill your power. If your fan is not spinning when you turn on, disconnect fan and try fireing again.
