I been hunting a eaton detroit for awhile. I run across a locale that has a rearend for sale. I got him to pull the cover off and find out what it has gears and diff wise. He said he couldn't tell if it was open or not, but that it had these numbers on the carrier
3682104 GM 7-32 12/58

Now from what little I know the second set of numbers is the ratio correct? 7-32 would be 4.57's which are fairly common.
The third set is the build date correct? If so December of 1958

Is there anyway to tell if this has the No Spin by the first set? I'd just drive up to see it for myself but it's almost 2 hrs away. I'd like to find out as much aspossible befor I take a roadtrip.

thanks in advance

If it has the axle shafts in it, have him turn one side. If the other side turns the same direction, its a no spin. If it turns the opposite direction, its open.

If he has the cover off, ask him to look inside and see if it has side gears. Should be able to see if it's open or not from there.

I tried telling him that, he said he wasn't sure:confused: I'm going to call him back one more time, if he can't tell me I'm going to give up on him.

sounds like the no's he giving you are on the ring gear . i justed checked one in the shop . but what was i thinking , hell its like a 14 bolt the case halfs split and in goes the no-spin i understand that you told him what to look for , but its easy to see either you see spider gears or a smooth surface where the spider openings are . just my 2 cents
