So I'm looking for a reasonable gas tank to use for relocation to the bed of the ranger. BII tanks I looked into, but their 23 gallon which is alittle big I thought. Whats good for this swap? WR. mentioned to me to use a reserve tank from a dual tank ranger but I cannot find one. Anything else out there that will be suitable? How do sending units match up?

I used a stock s10 tank, and cut a hole in my bed, and moved one of the crossmembers forward to support it. It would probably fit sideways if i wasn't dovetailed and didn't have a box right up against the cab. Sending units fit pretty good, the rangers top is a little bigger but i sealed it up with some shit and it hasn't been a problem. I don't know where exactly the float is, but it measures a full tank fine, and down to 1/4 tank (where the gauge doesn't go any lower, even if there is less gas). If i planned ahead and though about where i was placing the float it'd probably work perfect.

I'm running a reserve tank from a dual tank ranger:

Give em a call and tell em you need the tank that mounts BEHIND the rear axle of an 85 ranger. The tanks are new and ~$75 if I remember correctly.

Fits nicely, unless you're set on mounting it in your bed

Are you using the stock 4.0 pump?

I've got a 3.0L, not sure if the 4.0 is the same or not. I had to shorten it up quite a bit (~4")

I never got my fuel guage to work properly either. It read 100% full, so I switched the wires and now it reads empty. I just keep track of my miles and fill up when necessary (its my DD)

i'm on my stock 4.0 pump, i just got new fuel lines since they needed to be extended. As i said before, my gauge works good. Reads full when full, reads accurate to 1/4 of a tank....i usually fill up when i get to that point anywise so its never been an issure for me. It would probably work all the way to E, but i figure its hitting an internal baffle or something.

I'm planning to build an early Bronco as a half cab, and use an old in-cab fuel tank from a pickup in the bed, up against the bulkhead. They stand vertically and don't take much space, typically 8" or less thick, hold about 18 gallons. 60's-70's tanks may be a little wide, about 60". 50's trucks are narrower. I got a freebee from a 56 chevy which is 54" x 12 1/2" x 6 1/2".

How does this help the original poster who needs a tank for a fuel injection?

I've been contemplating using a reg cab short bed Ranger tank mounted horizontally up against the front of the bed. I've got a supercab ranger with the mega long coffin tank that I have to drag over rocks:shaking:
Buddy of mine mounted a jeep tank in the rear between the frame rails of his Ranger and it came out pretty slick. He had to change some of the fuel lines/fittings for it to work. Maybe he'll chime in with the details.

I used a Bronco II tank behind the axle in my 93 ranger. Used the 93 fuelpump and its been going strong for a few years. Fuel guage doesn't work cause the float was broken and I haven't fixed it yet.

That's right, I thought it was a jeep tank...but you did use a jeep filler neck and nozzle didn't you?
