These pics are from sunday's competition. (http://pages.prodigy.net/coolmank/pics/prorocks)

1 > Mike Smythe (sp?) I believe him to be a local cheesehead. (legends class)
2 > some dude in the legends class
3 > TJ legends dude flopping
4 > ... bringing him back over
5 > the aftermath
6 > Currie's red TJ (not the fireant) in the legends class
7 > again
8 > Chris Durham lining up ...
10 > ... and gettin' some.
11 > While trying to get off this boulder ...
12 > ... he had a violent roll. It shook him pretty good, but everyone and everything was fine in the end. Carnage: one hose clamp lost on the fuel filter ...
13 > ... and a busted hood.
14 > Ken Shupe lining up for the same boulder that Chris was high centered on.
15 > Ken took a "different" line.
16 > again
17 > BigDude earning his keep.
18 > Ken checking on cone clearance. ProRocks rules dictate that if you so much as glance a cone (rig or spotter) you are done with the obstacle ... more cmk commentary on that later.
19 > Interior of Ken's buggy ... minimalistic huh?
20 > Some dude (from OK?) was running a Bubba' fabbed buggy powered by a Mazda rotary (wankel) engine. At every steep climb, it would belch out a dense smokescreen that netted him the nickname "West Nile Annihilator."
21 > Chris again
22 > Bryan Hamilton. He put on the best show short of Chris'.
23 > Bryna again.
24 > Ken lining up for an obstacle that only one dude made it through without punching that cone. That dude did it by riding the winch cable the entire way from start to finish.
25 > Ken again
26 > and again ...
27 > ... and again.
28 > This is the dude with the wankel motor and Mog axles ... really odd combination; no torque whatsoever, but gobs of ground clearance.
29 > again
30 > Here he's in the process of getting ...
31 > ... really stuck. He couldn't get out of this and had to be winched off the obstacle.
32 > Chris putting on a show again ...
33 > ... and getting those MT/R's good, hot, and sticky.
34 > The show never ended with that dude.
35 > Ken makes the obstacles look easy.
36 > Ken backing through a pair of cones.
37 > While driving forward, he had to stop and back up a few inches. A few inches turned into a few too many when he couldn't get the rig back into gear fast enough and it slipped too far backward, punching a cone.
38 > BigDude, Timmy (Chris' spotter) and Ron (?) prepping the start of an obstacle.
39 > Chris crawling and not racing. It's a rare sight.
40 > ... crawling
41 > ... crawling
42 > ... racing
43 > ... crawling
44 > I didn't get any shots of this trio of gates, but Chris put on a seriously hellacious show of bonzai'ing up a gnarly hill of boulders, making every gate cleanly. That run garnished him the biggest ovation from the crowd out of the weekend.
45 > Bryan again.
46 > Bryan laid his Cruiser completely on its side. Right before the motor quit ...
47 > ... he drove out of it (self righted the rig) and continued on.
48 > And tried to one-up Chris' bonzai show. Unfortunately, he got a bad bounce ...
49 > ... and went over. The blown bead he suffered on the previous gate probably didn't help matters any.
50 > Once again, Ken making things look entirely too easy.
51 > Unfortunately, the right rear tire slipped off the rock it's on and landed on the cone.
52 > Bryan on the final obstacle of the day ... far too easy for dudes of this caliber.
53 > ... coming down from the top of the obstacle.
54 > Ken going up the same one.
55 > Ken & BigDude riding down.

I'll have more commentary on the weekend and ProRocks to come.

That guy in the Blue/Silver 'Cruiser is Bryan Hamilton. His throttle is a toggle switch marked "stop" and "haul ass".

Thanks much. I'll edit my original post to reflect that.

Bryan and Ron (?) were 93 Octane competitors. They put on a great show for the spectators and put "the fear" in the other competitors with their moves.

And you are right about his binary throttle style. The crowd ate it up.

There is one thing that I have to blow some steam off about. I cannot beleive that they let this team continue or for that matter begin to compete with this piece of sh#@ stock cage. Are you kidding me! And then they roll and take all of (if there was any) integrity out of it and they procede. I guess it wasnt my melon in that rig!

I have to agree. He should have been pulled from the comp after he flopped and buckled the two support bars. IMO, a TJ with the stock "sport cage" shouldn't even be allowed in a sanctioned competition ... especially not on the caliber of trails the legends class was running.

BTW, you needn't copyright my pics. I do appreciate the gesture though. If I upload something to the web, it's pretty much free fodder for whomever since I ain't gonna' make money on the pics either way. :D

cmk, that is one of the best pictures I've ever seen from a competition. I would honestly say that you could get some cash for that from a magazine or photo contest. I haven't checked out the others yet but just wanted to let you know how cool that one was. It was also cool to meet you this weekend, sorry I didn't have more time to chit chat :flipoff2:

CMK, I'd like your permission to use the photo of the white TJ as an example for our competitors, on why an upgrade rollbar will be required for the 2003 competition.

As far as why they have been allowed so far this year.....we seen them take some good rolls and not fail in that manner. That will change for next season!!!!

Great Photos by the way

Rich, have at it buddy. You have my permission to steal any pic you want. But when I make it out to a CalRocs event some time, I want free admission for an event. :D

The pics on my prodigy server are the raw images (1024x768).

Thanks to all those that commented on my pics. I'd like to thank the academy ... :D

It's 50% camera, 25% user, and 25% luck in hitting the shutter at the right time ... damn digi cams take so long to do their thing.

Even after dropping a Cleveland on that camera 2 years ago, I'm looking at new ones now. My Sony takes so stinking long to save the pic to the media that I missed several awesome shots (Chris going over, Bryan going over, etc). Some of the high end cameras today can do up to 20 shot "bursts" at about 3 frames per second. If I had something like that on hand, I could have caught Durham with about 2 feet of atmosphere under all four tires.

CMK, the pics look great. I too understand the frustration of the lag time for the digi cameras. Mine does a burst mode, though, I can never get the pics to be in focus.

great pics!!!
