What are the winnings if anything at all? I've searched around and haven't really found any hard statements, other than bragging rights and the KOH crown.
If this has been answered a million times, I'll put my flame suit on now. :D
The winner of the 2009 Griffin Thermal Products King of the Hammers will receive a check from Hammerking Productions for $10,000, A full BFGoodrich Tires Contract for the 2009 race season, and contingency prizes. They will also take home the Golden Scepter, and bragging rights. Yes a guaranteed Purse of $10,000! The First team out of the Race like last year will play court Jester and build the campfire.

Ya,the money is sweet, but you talk to most of these drivers and teams and the bragging rights is what really lights their fire. I don't think anybody is in it just for the money.

To be clear. None of us knew what the payout would be for winning the KOH race until just recently. So your buddy was right in a way. It's not about what you win. It's about being apart of a great race and the experiences that goes along with it.
I would agree that there is no chance at all that I could win this race. But that has not slowed me down at all, and this is the third time I will be competing in KOH.
It's all about the stories :D:D

I'm about five minutes from heading to the lakebed to start setting up after hell week here at home.
Its not likely you will ever see a payout percentage from Hammerking. We don't promote on a payback or purse and we hope never to have too.
What we sell is measured in Smiles per hour. We sell an adventure, we sell a chance to promote, and we sell a vessel to test your will and personal strength. If you are looking for a purse, we are not likely your best bet.
Last year we paid out $3500.00 to Shannon on the spot. Its what we felt fair sharing and he took home more then both Dave and I combined. When we finished the budget this year we felt we could pay $10,000.00 to the winner. If we had more we would pay more. That simple.
BFGoodrich is doing something they have never done. Giving a tire contract to the winner. If your on BFGoodrich already it just raised your standing. If your not you just got signed with a tire company the industry looks at as a measure of success. Its a great foundation to build on and IMHO worth far more then the $10,000 purse.
At any rate Dave and I do our best by this industry, we hope they are digging it.
See you all on the lakebed, and enjoy this historic event.

Please tell me I get to line up next to Dave and You somewhere in a KOH style thing. That would make my year.
