I am trying to get the odds and ends wrapped up on my Jeep, and am having trouble figuring out the reverse switch. I feel so stupid, but I cant figure it out.

It is an old T-19, same switch as the T18. Illustrated nicely here:

It is an old switch, original to the transmission, I am sure. The hole lines up with the reverse rail, and there is an indentation in the rail for the ball to sit.

The reverse wires from the harness have 12v+ in, and a wire out to the backup lights, much like the brake switch.

There is continuity between the poles when the ball is at rest, and when the ball is depressed. This would make the reverse lights on all the time.

Am I missing something? Is the switch just broken?

I am guessing broken... the switch similar to that on my transfer case and it was open circuit normal and closed with ball depressed. If there is no change, I am guessing switch is bad. Maybe test to ground w/ one or both poles just in case?

Will tear into my T19 later...

X2, Switch sounds broken.
