360 V8, married C6/205, high pinion closed knuckle drum brake dana 44 front, 9" rear end, and manual steering. The steering is convertable, and you can find a better axle from a 76-79 F150(78-79 bronco) that is open knuckle and disc brakes.

OR.... 360/np435/d21, hp open knuckle kingpin drum brake d44, 28 spline 9" and either (most likely) manual steering or really crappy power assist steering. :D

ahhhhh.......gotcha there. If it has a np435 it's the 2wd version whether it's 4X4 or 2X4. :D

Yup it does have married tc, only pre-historic f-100s have divorced t-cases.

you beat me to it willysrul :flipoff2:, my tow rig is a 72 f-100 2wd, fordification is a very good site for 67-72 fords, the 4x4 section is kinda slow but there is a lot of tech there for your truck and a vin number decoder to help you figure out what you have to work with.

The vin decoder is meaningless. Finding out what you really have under the truck is the acutal problem 35+ years of history means alot could have been changed. All the VIN decoder will tell you is whether your truck started life as a 4x4 or not, and what kind of crappy equipment your truck came factory with. For going out and getting firewood, in stock form the truck will be fine. If you want to put 44" boggers on it, and an 18" lift consisting of square tuning, and lots of curbs at the mall, yes this truck will do ok.

What is your definition of trail use?

Pix of said truck with (hot) female posing??
