: Attaching fuel tank

Was thinking of using wide nylon straps to re attach the stock gas tank in my 1980 Bj40, is this a safe way to do this or should I just cough up the €€€€ and buy new metal straps?

Any other suggestions?

that should be fine. its not like its gonna just fall out right??? plus your seat braket holds it in...

Gas tank isn't located under the seat's like with the older model cruiser's, it's attached under the tub.

I would only use the metal straps under the rig. I have a set kicking around from my 1979 FJ-40. If they will fit your BJ they are yours for free.

Heck I got the stock fuel tank and skid plate too.

hmmmmmmm

just use the factory metal straps....or get similar ones from another vehicle, dont use cords, or actual seatbelts or anything, as its subject to a fair bit of abuse under there........

vans and other passenger type vehicles, have similar setups

or buy an aftermarket tank, comes with new straps, and lines and everything.....

here is sorta what it looks like

its a 90L tank too

WILL THESE FIT A EARLIER TANK-UNDER-PASS-SEAT STYLE CRUISER?

Heavy duty nylon straps will suffice just fine...

Don't think they will fit the older style 40 Cruiser's.

Link to some clearer pic's of how the tank is mounted:
