I have an '87 RRC. Yesterday I slid on a rock face and suceeded in denting the hell out of my diff hounsing on the front axle. I am going to get/make a skidplate-protection device for it.

My question is, how much clearance it there inside between an un-damaged housing and the ring gear? I am wondering if I shoul bend the housing back before the cover goes on? It isn't rubbing as far as I can tell (no noise), but I am still a bit concerned.
