Pilot rock is 3N17(or is it 2N17?) I believe...about a 10 min drive from the end of Cleghorn trail. You head towards Lake Silverwood, trail head is just to the left before the parking lot to the lake.
You could easily do Cleghorn and Pilot Rock in a day if you start early and keep moving.

No that's a poser pic. He probably could have made it through but he would have got some damage. We were already limping one rig home at that point and wanted to cut our losses. Little did we know more was waiting for us on the pavement in Arrowhead. We split into two groups and the other guys found some kids in a F250 2wd stuck, they spent over an hour trying to pull them out, then found that the clutch on the F250 was done, so they ended up giving the kids a ride into town, left the truck there. Then when we we headed down the hill the truck we were limping out decided it had enough, so we had to call for a tow. We finally got off the hill at about 6:30pm.

That is one of my favorite trails to go on. Unfortunately I haven't been on it when there is snow. My rig is at a buddy,s house getting a cage and sliders so I can't go out to check the snow. I will be back on the trails and wheelin soon though.

Your 4 Runner looks great all flexed out. Changing those front springs must have made a big difference.

We didn't really intend to be on it in the snow. I knew there would be some snow at the top but it's pretty flat by the time you hit 5000 feet. Anyways the original plan was to go up the ridge (2N33) all the way to Arrowhead because I didn't think the guy with the H2 would want to do 2N17X but he was down to beat that thing up so we went that way. I really wish we had video of him on the v-notch part, he got so lucky. There really wasn't much snow on the trail until the last hillclimb where it meets up with 2N33. There was a group of Jeeps there that were trying the harder snow line that got denied, then some guys on dirt bikes gave it a shot, they were cool and very entertaining to watch.

Thanks man. They made a night and day difference, now my front end flexes. And I got some body damage because of it, I used to be able to do the hard line in the rock garden without the sheet metal hitting because the stiff front held it up. Now it hits, ouch. Oh well the sliders will hide the mark. Let me know if you are down to go out to JV soon.

I'm up for heading out there any time after March 10. Pick a date you're available so I can run it past the wife. This pregnancy thing is weird, I have to ask persmission to leave. Normally, she loves it when I'm out of the house.

Nice pics. I was up there Saturday after Cleghorn. Being a lone truck we turned around at the steep snowy stuff. Any plans on running Pilot Rock again in the near future? Can you tell me what size tires the black 4Runner is running?

He's afraid to open it and see the carnage... Not that I blame him, I sure as hell can't afford a set of gears this month. I need to chill out for a while before I make another trip. Got started on the sliders the other day but then it started raining... maybe I'll get them done this weekend. Been getting little details done here and there.
