I have one of the smaller (bench top, maybe 24" long) HF Sandblast cabinets. My brother and I bought it maybe 6 years ago and its sat in storage since (never used).
I dragged it out and am going to fire it off to clean some parts. Whats the skinny on these things? What should I expect?
Tips?
Tricks?
Giant POS or good for the $$ (even better since I already have it).

Our school shop has one and it does pretty well for something from HF.
Lets put it this way, It has lasted the last 2.5 years in a high school with 2500 kids in it.

I believe so yes. I havent had to use it since the first time we got it because I usually go during studyhalls or free time to weld or cut.

just hook the vac and a good air sorce and blast away.
no matter what cabinet you have keeping the window unsandblasted is a pain in the ass.

i have on and it really only has a couple of issues:
1) the side of the hopper in the bottom don't have enough taper for the sand to flow down to the bottom. the siphon tube will pick up the sand, but after a while is just lays on the sides and there is a cone shaped depression in the middle. i've thought about cleaning all of the sand out and lining the hopper with some peel and stick UHMW or HDPE so it would be slick enough to flow.
2) like all blasters, you'll need good airflow to keep the dust down well enough to see.
i bought a bucket of the HF aluminum oxide blasting media and it works pretty good. make sure you have a good dryer on your air line to keep the water from clogging the nozzle.

TP tools has plastic protectors for that reason. Double sided tape to hold them on..cut down on replacing windows.

if its brand new with no sand in it yet silicone all seams to stop sand dust from coming out. mine leaks like a sieve.

Give the guy 10 bucks. The site is full of guys sharing all kinds of info about blasting. Im sure you can get good info about your cabinet as well as different types of media, nozzles, converting yours to a PA, etc.

before you put sand in it, silicone all of the seams in the cabinet. Mine leaks like hell...sand goes everywhere.

When the sand starts to slow down, back-flow the feed hose by covering the blast nozzle with your glove -- that will blow any clog back, and when you move your glove, happy blasting will ensue.

This can't be repeated enough. And makes a huge difference

Don't laugh, but I have seen were some people will go to the adult store and buy a couple battery operated "toys", and affix them to the hopper sides. this should help keep the material from bridging as bad. think of the tank vibrators on a semi truck dump body, or on a powder hopper at a cement plant... similar concept, lacking the phallic appearance :grinpimp:
