I've been searching for a few weeks for a plasma cutter and I ran across a Miller Spectrum 375 on Ebay for less than $600 (including shipping), it was guaranteed to work, so I couldn't really pass it up.

It does work, and it is well used, but for the price I ain't complaining. I'm sure what few problems I noticed are more my shortcomings in the operation of a plasma than issues with the machine.

It needs a shorter power cable, right now it has a 50' cable, and since this is going to share the cart with my Mig welder, it doesn't need a cable longer than a few feet at best.

Now, the only problem I have with it is that it's missing the ground clamp, and the ground wire is torn and frayed. Since the cutter will share the cart with the Mig, would it be possible to have them "share" a ground clamp? What size wire should I use to replace the wire on the plasma cutter? It doesn't look to be that substantial, maybe 10 gauge.

About the only other thing I noticed is when you pull the trigger you hear the air start flowing and there is about a 1 to 2 second delay before the arc starts, is that normal?

Run a seperate ground , 10 guage is fine. The delay is normal operation in my experience . Make sure that your air supply is dry and clean , you will go through alot of consumables if not .

Thanks! I've been meaning to upgrade the clamp on my HH 187, so I guess now's as good a time as any.

Is there a way to tell how dry the air is? I don't have a dryer but I've got two coelscing filters, I honestly have no idea how much moister is in the air coming from the tank.

I do plan on building a "frazinator" (or whatever it's called) to help dry the air.

MUST run a drier , the drier the air the better. Just a little moisture will ruin consumables .
