Need any information possible on the NP4530 transmission

The only thing I can tell you is that while I have heard of it in Dodge trucks, I, even in my days as a Parts Manager and Parts Advisor at the local Dodge dealership that has been in business since 1947 and had most of the parts manuals back to that era, I never found any info in the books where one was in a Dodge truck. Granted, I wasn't in the medium duty truck manuals often, but I can also find no mention of it in my BCA/National book either. I do not have the BCA/National books for the heavy series trucks though. I did manage to find listings for the NP4530 in GM medium trucks (1.5 ton 2.5 ton) from '65-'72, but the only parts listed are the input, main/output, counter shafts and reverse idler. Note that the listings for the NP4530 are listed together with the NP4500, which is NOT the same as the modern NV4500, though they do share a lot of designs. You may want to try a heavy truck parts supplier as it appears it was a fairly heavy 5 speed and may have been used in heavier trucks than the common 1.5-2.5 ton.

I am trying to acquire the old manuals from the dealership now since most of what is in them is unavailable and the current Parts Manager (a guy I trained, lol) hate looking up stuff in the old manuals. If I find anything else, I will post it up. You may also want to ask over at RamchargerCentral.com. There was also some posts over at the Power Wagon Advertiser forums back in 2007 asking pretty much the same questions. Come to think of it, that guy was from Michigan also, so you are probably him, lol.

Thanks for the info, But the nv4530 I have is a full synconized 1-4 .

Everything I have says it was a 5 speed, so I don't know. Good luck.

The tag on the trans is NP4530, But Dodge calls it a NP445, Mystery solved.

The NP445 is a full syncro close ratio 4 speed. I have one in a 71 Dodge. The gear ratios are 1st 4.56, 2nd 2.28, 3rd 1.31, 4th 1:1. Good trans, but not if you need a really low 1st gear. Great for towing, not so much for wheeling.

I have heard of the number issue before but completely forgot about it being "NP4530". The one truck I had with a NP445 had to tag on it. I do find it very odd that "NP4530" is listed in all my bearing manuals as a 5 speed and the only pics on the net I could find look much larger than the NP435.

I swapped a 435 for a 445 and vice versa between two trucks, 100% bolt-in. The 445 has a larger main case, but they have the same measurement from the face to the center of the u-joint + or - a smidge. I took mine from a W200 and put it in my D100 with 2.76 rear, it drives great and flies on the hiway.
