I had the YJ running for 30 minutes and it shut off. Getting power to distributor and not the coil. I have changed the relays, checked fuses and when i turn the key on, i get lights on dash, buzzing but no start. It will not even try.
What wires do i need to hook up and from where to a toggle switch that i can turn the power on and off and when in on position can use key to start.
i have tried to have someone from the local mississippi forum give me some advice or even pay someone to come over and help and guess if your not in their click u don't get any help or advice.
anbodys help is greatly appreciated. thanks
Joe

What year, have you checked your Crank sensor yet?

What Year YJ, what motor, anything special about it, like aftermarket ignition? Is this the original motor. Do you have a test light or multi-meter? Is there any spark at all? I mean last time I checked the distributor was after the coil. So how your distibutor is getting power but your coil is not is beyond me. When's the last time this thing has been tuned up?

its a 91 Jeep wrangler with a 4.0 engine from a 95 cherokee. It ran for 30 minutes and just shut off. No special modifications. What im trying to do, is find out what wires i need to hook up to a toggle switch and then turn the ignition key to start it or to have just a push button start. Im old school chevy so this fuel injection, brain box etc.. is getting my butt.

Sounds like symptoms of a crank position sensor. Not worth rewiring your dash for, at least at this point. Theres wiring diagrams on the net that can tell you what wires you need to set up a push button start, just google it.

Its not even turning over, i thought the cps would cause it not to start, but not stop the starter from turning the motor over.

These are for XJ's but they might help you get the idea, can't be wired too differently..
