My wiper/turn signal switch in my 05 Colorado broke internally, so, $240 later, I got the new switch.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the airbag from the steering wheel. I see these little clips inside the viewholes on either side of the steering wheel back, and have pushed on and pried on them, but haven't succeeded in removing it.

I been all over the internet tonight looking for an answer, with no success.

Any chance any of you know how the airbag gets removed?

If I recall correctly those clips are't what you want. There should be a couple other small holes on the backside with *I believe* torx head screws, 4 I think.

If those holes are what I think the are, it's the vent opening for when the airbag is deployed.
Also, check a manual for your truck, disconnect the battery and let it sit for a few minutes, and there should be a plug at the base of the dash with a Bright yellow safety clip that you're supposed to disconnect first, so you don't chance the airbag going off.

you have to release the spring clips through the access holes in the back of the wheel. It is a pain, but you have to push them both inwards.

yes, and yes. the screws go in from the back side. im not sure how many there are.
but i think it'll unplug right at the airbag. once u get the screws out, theres prob gonna be a couple small plugs. but, i suggest disconnecting the battery ATLEAST 3 minutes, before u even touch it.

I have access to all factory service manuals at my shop and have done several of these. All you have to do is release the spring clips. It is a bitch, but that is how it is done on this exact year, make, and model!! Do one at a time, when you release one, pull out on the airbag on that side to keep it from clipping itself back in while you release the other.
