: Ruger #1S in .460 S&W?

Anybody seen one yet? How much did they have on it?

In IN we can use .35 cal and larger cartridges in rifles for deer, as long as they are a min of 1.16 in case length, 1.625 max.

I'd have to trim .175 off the case, and seat the bullets out a ways to enhance accuracy and be legal. I was hoping to not use the heavier bullets as I wanted a bit of a boomflop effect.

I emailed Ruger's CEO (per the sites tab) about making a Ruger #1 S in .44 magnum. Eh, the .44 is OK, but making that rig would fit within the regs, probably have a decent following, and also allow those who wanted to to have theirs reamed to .445 Supermag.

I haven't seen a #3 in .44 mag for some time, and getting #1 wood, trigger guard and lever would add quite a bit to the price (folks who did that years ago called them #4's).

Don't care for the NEF Handi's (although a .357 mag reamed for Maximum might make for a good ladies/kids deer rifle).

My hunting partner has the 77/44 and it's OK, but not what I am after(btw, he has a Handi in Max too- got it for his wife).

I want more than .44 magnum, in something that looks "better".

FWIW I did shoot a custom barrelled Encore in .500 S&W. 16.5" rig, 300, 325 and 500 grain handloads.

Had some integral break that worked VERY well. It was easy to shoot, with the 500 gr stuff moved you, but it was a push, nothing painful. Of course the guy tells me the barrel was over $500.

Says that big bullet makes deer just flop over dead.
